Ok here are the results for cigar #3

Miamipadronsmoker

Nicaraguan Tatuaje Havana Cazadores.

Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan Long Filler
Size: Lonsdale 63/8 x 43 ring

I was feeling under the weather and this cigar didn't taste good to me at all probably because of my cold. It was too strong for me with the cold so I could only get through half of it. I'm pretty sure this cigar was a Tat Havana Cazadore. That's my guess and I'm sticking with it.

Sadly, I couldn't get very much out of this cigar. It was very loosely rolled and had a hole through the center of it about 3/16" wide. It was a Cervantes size at 6.5x 44, and smelled of Cuban barnyard. All I could really taste was a sort of burnt tobacco, not unpleasant, but not what I think the roller intended. I got a little bit of spices or cinnamon maybe near the end, but not really enough to go off of.

I'm going to say a Cuban Boli Gold Medal that was off because that's the only thing i have in my humi to compare it to.

This was a beautiful cigar that sported a dark, sheeny wrapper. Given its appearance and approximate size (lonsdale 6.5 x 43 or 44), I was eagerly looking forward to it. It certainly didn't disappoint, but it was also a tough nut to crack.

It had a ton of flavors and I was puzzled as to what it might be. I went back and forth between a couple of nuances to the cigar and I'll say it was a cuban Romeo y Julieta Cazadores. It was a very good cigar.

This is a nice Lonsdale sized cigar with smooth, oily, chocolate brown wrapper with minimal veins, slightly coarse. There’s a slight give when squeezed, very good weight in the hand, and with the cap pre-cut I find the draw to be spot on with faint hints of cocoa.

I put fire to the foot and after a couple good puffs, take a slow, long draw. Heavy-duty black pepper spice comes through in the medium to full-bodied smoke. Taste of vanilla bean and toasted nut come through with a nice finish that’s lasting.

The burn is sharp with a light gray ash forming that is quite compact, and falls very easily at about three quarters of an inch in. As I get further in, the powerful spice starts to subside slightly in the medium to full bodied smoke with flavors continuing to be that of vanilla bean, toasted nuts, and a hint of woodiness. It seems I can taste cocoa and black licorice underneath. The finish is excellent up exhaling, but somewhat short on the palate.

Going into the last third, I run into a small tunnel that causes the cigar to burn rather hot, but only for a little bit. I find the black pepper spice seems to be picking back up with the body pushing very full. This is one strong cigar! Getting closer to the end, the cigar is burning quite hot, and I have to take small sips on the smoke to enjoy it. Flavors seem to have darkened somewhat with taste of strong, black coffee.

I’m somewhat perplexed with this smoke as I swear at the beginning everything about it reminded me of a Tatuaje Havana VI; the ash/burn, flavor, body. But, I couldn’t recall any Tat of this vitola. Maybe a Don Pepin of some sort, but again nothing comes to mind for this size. Towards the end, I didn’t get that usual sweet twang and increasing richness I find with Nicaraguan tobacco. I have to be honest, I’m not sure what this smoke is, however I’m guessing Dominican, possibly an LFD. Hammer?

I threw a little bit of a curve ball here with a fairly new cigar. Cigar #4 I am throwing a knuckle ball.

Where we at with reviews on stick #4? I know I've completely lost this thing :D however am still curious to see the fellas thoughts on that last one.

Dammit! My fault guys. I'll get to it tomorrow.

Ok the results from cigar #4 are in. I thank you all for taking part in this. I will try to have the prize pack out to Mu Mike early next week.

I finally got around to smoking cigar #4. It had a rough, veiny wrapper and was quite firm which likely led to its tight draw. I didn't measure the cigar but it looked to be 5 x 48, or perhaps slightly smaller in ring guage. Initial taste was slightly salty, but that dissipated and gave way to some earthiness. It was a pleasant cigar but it never developed enough to get interesting. I believe it to be cuban in origin but there weren't any characteristics that pointed to a traditional cuban marquee. So, I'll say it was some sort of Johnny-O but I'm not sure which size, maybe a robusto or corona extra.

This one was really tough. I did not get much out of this cigar, I think it might be a dominican cigar, but i just have no clue at all. I have no guess whatsoever.

No clue what this was. Very bitter tasting at first and then mellowed out. Habano I think. I did not enjoy this cigar. Was it tapered? It had a weird shape, i should have measured it. I have no clue but I will guess a Juan Lopez #1. This one is probably way off. You really got me on this one.

Cigar No. 4 has a medium brown wrapper, slight oil, and is coarse with a number of veins throughout. It has a little give when squeezed, good weight in the hand, and with the cap pre-cut I find a very good draw with a straightforward tobacco taste coming through.

With fire to the foot and a couple of puffs to get the burn going well, I take a nice long draw and find a perfect spice hitting the back of the throat with the smoke itself a good medium body. Flavors are very rich vanilla, roasted nuts, cocoa, with a hint of citrus zest and a delicious finish that is lasting.

The burn is sharp with a strong medium gray ash forming and a draw that is spot on perfect. Flavors continue to be as previously described, very rich on the palate with a good medium to not quite full-bodied smoke coming through. The wrapper came loose at the halfway mark and the cigar started unraveling, which of course cause the burn to go uneven.

This was a very good cigar with a good burn (at least until the wrapper came undone), strong ash, delicious flavor and lasting finish. The wrapper coming undone was unfortunate, but happens sometimes. My guess is Cuban, however the flavor profile is similar, IMO, to a number of different Marca and could be any one of them. My first thought was Punch, however it seemed like a Bolivar, but then again maybe an SLR. I’m going to go with Punch on this one, however what Punch to guess? Due to the size I have no idea (4ish x 46?). I’ll go with RS 11 and even if it is wrong, it tasted like one to me. Dagnabbit. Whatever it was, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Don, thanks so much for an extremely great learning experience and putting this together. These were very tough smokes to guess, great job on selecting them.

Cigar #4 was a Johnny-O Corona Extra

WOO HOO!! Thanks for the journey Don, it was a blast!

Note to self: Never go in against Mike in a blind review.

Fantastic palate you got there Mike! Congrats on the win, well deserved!

Dumb luck, that's all. As I told Don in a PM, I can't take too much credit for this last one. I knew it was cuban, that much was certain. But it tasted like a farm cigar I had in the past and I know Johnny-O cigars are in that vein. So, my only option was Johnny-O.

I think everyone did a great job because these things aren't easy.

Wow! I am speechless that I got to try a Johnny-O, and that it didn't go too well. I will need to try more because either I have no taste buds left, or it was a bit of a dud, I don't know which.

I want to get my hands on some of those baby sal's of his. I've heard enough reviews to go ahead and get a whole bundle hopefully i wont be let down.

The baby sal's are good. The ones I have are young and VERY strong. Every time I open the humi where I have the rest of the bundle it smells like a fresh barn yard.

Nice job Mike, and great reviews from everyone. KingAntz, where are the pics of the Johnny O?? This was definitely fun to watch play out. Thanks for putting putting it together Pembroke3355.
