With over a decade of information in these forums, useful threads can often become hard to find. What do you guys think of creating a sub-forum called something like Useful Cigar Information, and moving the useful threads there? That way, we can start maintaining a database of cigar information, rather than having stuff get burried.

Thoughts?

Im into it.  It does get difficult to weed through a lot of the old threads sometimes.  Maybe that's just my noobish-ness coming through, but I like the idea.

I do not know about many of you, but I never use the Forums search function it doesn't quite do it for me.  Why that is I have no idea, but whenever I want to do a CP search I always use google instead with the search code "CigarPass"

With that being said a "useful Topics" Thread will be great!

Rod,

Would it be a subforum that only you will be able to move topics to and that they can't be replied to within?

The reason I ask is that it could start out as a useful tool, and with replies and other nonsense, turned into useless information.

I'd like to hear other perspectives, but to me it would be beneficial to simply have it as a read only type forum.

Thoughts?

This would be a another forum category, perhaps something called "Useful Cigar Information". It would contain two sub-forums, maybe called Cigar Info and Cigar Storage. I did not plan on locking them down, as by leaving them open we can continue to expand upon the topics. Since most of the useful info will be on the first page or 2 of the thread, I don't believe leaving it open for additional comments will cause any distraction or degradation of the thread. I would encourage people to keep the threads updated by posting questions and comments to the relevant threads.

Only I will be able to move threads to the new forum, and keep them categorized accordingly. Also, no one will be able to post new topics in these two sub-forums, so we'll keep them clutter free that way.

Sounds like the feedback is positive. I'll start working on this today! :)

Yeah, that makes sense how you say it. So there is some admin control in that new topics can't be created, but only moved there by yourself.

I'll agree with your comment about the first couple pages being the real substance and allowing posting will keep the thread updated as times progress.

Sounds good.

I think being able to update some of the threads can be helpful with current info.  If, for example, the Fuente and Padron msrp threads were in there they could be updated with what current prices are looking like at different shops, etc.

Updating the threads will also be possible, by the original poster or by me.  I'll also update the thread titles if they require more clarity.

I think that's a good idea, Will make dumb ass's like me find things a little easier. As mentioned above, I don't often use the forum search, sometimes doesn't find what I am looking for, so I end up just browsing until I find what I was looking for, Or as you all know *post my dumb questions again in a new thread* lol

Sounds good Rod.

I would be strongly opposed to any changes made to a thread's original content by anyone ( including you, Rod ) other than the original author of the information.

Also, instead of "moving" threads, why not simply start a useful link thread, thus preserving the archives "as is"? The title of the link can be edited to clarify what the original thread contains, but it keeps the original content intact.

As usual he speaks wisdom.

Makes sense. Original content will only be modified by the author. I will still update titles accordingly (if necessary).

We can start with a list format and see how it goes.
