Hello Folks,
Just read a few articles saying the new Gran Reserva Esplendidos is now on sale in Switzerland a few other places. The ones that had them in stock were about $9300 per box. Its amazing where the prices of Cuban cigars are going and as long as they are selling I suppose the upward price trend continue. If I had Elon Musk money I would buy a few boxes but unfortunately I do not. Take care folks and enjoy your Cubanscohiba1011d.jpg good health.

There was a time when I would buy at least two boxes of any Cohiba release. Sadly, those days are long gone now.

Big time hustle for sure but some of them have been stupendous. The Partagas Lusitanias are phenomenal. I thought the ‘97 cab I had couldn’t be beat until I smoked a few of the GRs.

I feel like weird hsa partagas releases shine more often in general. I feel like Cohiba and Monte special releases are bullshit far too often for the price they command. At this point the answer is to rob an auction house, go big or go home.

The few I had have been pretty good, but I guess it's just me. When I read all the hype, I expect the heavens to open, and the angels to sing when I smoke one. I've had aged ones from a 50 cab I felt were better. Not just speaking from a value standpoint either.

Being an analytical numbers nerd, I have a hard time accepting that this cigar could be six times better than some of the Aged Cuban $100 cigars I've had?

Exactly! I'll spend frivolously on aged cigars that are risky (As in have they been cared for properly over the years), before I will spend crazy money on clever advertising and packaging. Regionals are a different story. While more expensive, they're not too crazy, and I've come across some real gems.

Yeah I agree 100%. When I was buying regionals they generally weren’t approaching 9k a box, which made them more approachable and the whiffs more forgivable. They also cater to regional market preferences (looking at you bolivar and QdO french regionals) which lets you get at sizes and profiles that wouldn’t otherwise exist. The JL obus and the ED109 are perfect examples (individual tastes not withstanding) - totally unique profiles that simply don’t exist in the normal lineups.

Like John said, for the price point on the GR releases I want to be blown away. If you put a 90s CoLa and a Cohiba GR on the table and asked me to choose, I would pick the CoLa every single time. The original Cohiba GR was a very good cigar, but also set the stage for this bullshit by open pricing at $100+ (I can’t remember the exact cost). It was a very good cigar because it was using OR siglo VI, which are very good cigars. If a normal person on the boards tried to sell a 6 year old sig VI for 500% of current release cost they would (hopefully) get laughed out of town, it’s quite a premium for a second band.
