Cinco de Mayo - Who Cares?

heh good thing for you Scotts that you do the caber toss and hammer throw otherwise you never would lived down the whole kilt thing.

My name's not Scott!! But I am a Scot! :D

Let's not forget the whole haggus thing! Nothing like a good batch of intestines to celebrate a holiday!

pffffftttttt Tartan day isn't celebrated in Scotland and you know it lol

Congrats Nathan

Why are we falling for a BS marketing holiday that has almost nothing to do with this country? I don't give a crap about Bastille Day, or Guy Fawkes Day and those are holidays from countries that had a much more significant impact on the US, why should we care about the 5th of May?

Its a day to drink, be merry and get laid. Whats the problem? And its on a friday this year :D

to put it simply...Americans like to have an excuse to drink. Plus the food is good.

Ian

Excuse? Who needs one?

Those damn Mexicans again, why dont they just go back to mowing our yards and stop trying to force their holidays on us? :0 :0 :0

I don’t know if you realize this, but Mexico and the US share a border, and in Texas we have a "significant" Hispanic population. Sometime in the not to distant future they will most likely make up the majority here. The US has been pretty damn focused on trying to keep European powers out of this entire side of the globe, so I would say that the Mexicans (temporarily) defeating the French is relevant. Also, it has become more of a celebration of Mexican culture in general. And why do you care enough to question pretty much the only holiday of theirs that we celebrate here, does it really hurt you to celebrate Mexican culture once a year?

But your right, we shouldnt give them to much recognition or they may start getting cocky and asking for more.

This seemed much more antagonistic than what might have been justified. AVB mainly mentioned the 'marketing' scheme's that have become the norm for ANY holiday here in the US.

I just found it in poor taste to question pretty much our only celebration of Mexican and Hispanic culture, especially considering national current events.

I don't what was entirely behind this post other than what was stated, but obviously this has spun into a bunch of bullshit remarks.

Rod, this thread needs to be shut down, it has no place on this forum!!

edit to add: In case anyone is wondering if I'm kidding, I'M NOT! Being a Mexican American I am highly offended by some of the things said by some.

edit again to remove my vulgar remark.

Hi, AVB! Here in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Cinco de Mayo is usually celebrated to a small degree, primarily by Texans of Mexican heritage (with picnics, fireworks, etc.). But, for the most part, it is basically just a regular day. Regards, knightlaird

He was defending the holiday, the only one who has made a bullshit remark so far is you, I suggest you calm down and reread his post. the part that set you off was meant as sarcasm.

Agreed!

I saw it as sarcasm. I don't like the tone of this topic. I didn't see AVB starting trouble, it's just the personal feelings of some came out whether intended or not, and it's offenseive.

EDIT: OK, Qualls, I apologize for my outburst. I am as you might have guessed a little pissed off.

I do agree w/ Roberto that Qualls point could have been made w/out the racial jab.

There is another topic, related, just bubbling below the surface about to explode. The policy on this board is to leave the politics elsewhere. Lets do that please.

Agreed. It obvious with all the media surrounding the marches and protests going on now with the immigration bill have a lot of people in an uproar.

In any case, NS is right, it's political and has no place. I'm done :)
