Cinco de Mayo - Who Cares?

Why are we falling for a BS marketing holiday that has almost nothing to do with this country? I don't give a crap about Bastille Day, or Guy Fawkes Day and those are holidays from countries that had a much more significant impact on the US, why should we care about the 5th of May?

Because the marketers are good and they realized the $$ potential in a holiday that has zero meaningto the US, but yet Americans are willing to shell out for it anyway. You have to remember, many in the US are like sheep and easily hearded and blinded by the wolf in sheep's clothing.

Well according to this it should be celebrated by both countries since without US support Mexico would have lost.

I personally don't see it as a real holiday but considering what is going on in America right now regarding the Mexican border and Immigration in general I can see why it might be celebrated by some.

Doing some reading on this I find that it is celebrated more here then in Mexico. The marketing people must be working overtime.

That reminds me Bunker Hill Day is coming up on June 17th in Massachusetts. Too bad it's on a Saturday, I'm sure all the State employees will get Friday or Monday off anyway. I hope it can live up to my April 17th Patriot's Day celebration. I don't even work for the state and got that one off. :thumbs:

As far as Cinco de Mayo goes, I was going to use it as an excuse to tip back some tequila. But perhaps I am falling in to the marketing of a false holiday. Maybe, I'll spite Cinco de Mayo with a glass of scotch.

I honestly didn't even know Cinco de Mayo was coming up. All I am concerned about for this weekend is the Kentucky Derby and a little gambling .

Only one of 3 that are making inroads. Sweetest Day (third Saturday in October) and International Women's Day (8 March). Although Sweetest Day is not really for women the name makes it sound like it is.

For myself... I'm "celebrating" this "holiday" by treating myself to some seafood at Copeland's in Jacksonville (New Orleans style seafood), as I'll be there for a charity motorcycle ride on Saturday. Of course, some quality leaf will be torched as well (that's a given!).

Otherwise, I need no excuse to enjoy Mexican food. :love:
