Cigars out of the humidor ?

Assuming I keep my cigars at 65% how long can can I dry box them for before smoking.I like how my isoms burn better after sitting out of the humi foe awhile.The longest I let them sit in the drybox is 24 hours.
 
Do you mean assuming you keep them at 65% out of the humidor? Or you keep them at 65% and want to know how long they will last out of the humi. If its the second I wouldn't think much longer than 24 hours. Thats just my opinion though.

When you say dry box, are you talking about a humidor without humidification, of simply leaving them out on the counter. A dry box to my understanding, being a humidor (tupperdor) without any added humidification is a good way to slowly lower the humidity of a cigar that smokes better at a lower humidity that you store them at. As for how long, I don't dry box, and haven't experimented with it, so I can't help you there.

If you are simply leaving them out, that will cause uneven drying or saturating depending on your climate.

I have heard Mark, "N2adventure", speak of dry boxing. He may be able to help you with specifics.
 
Probably the best way to do this is order a small amount of 60% beads from Viper or Mark and set up a box at that RH so you have a more controlled environment.

Wilkey,yes it did seem to taste better.That might be because it burned a little better.Yes it was a cuban(one of my last PSP2's from JOEM) must get more!!!Sometimes when I smoke them right out the humi I have to relight.
mmburtch,my drybox is just a humi with no humidification.What do you think no more than 3 days out of the humi or more?

I typically drybox in a spare cab that I keep in the box stack over in a corner of my basement. Sticks smoke just fine even after a week but I usually light 'em up after 1-3 days. The humidity in my basement is pretty consistent at 58% this time of year.

There is nothing wrong with longterm cigar storage at 60-62%. If you believe that it must be 70/70, then that is a fallicy. You might try lowering your Rh on your humi from 65% to 62% and see how that smokes for you. What cigars are you storing at 65% and then sitting out of the humi for 24 hrs to smoke? If it is a stronger stick, then that might be that the tobacc is still young (and thick) and storing more humidity in its thickness allowing you to "drybox" it for 24 hrs.
 
I only started doing this for about a month now.At first I was just doing it with cubans(PSP2.Siglo2.Mag 46 ) but latley I've done it with Opus perfexion 5,Pepin blue label and VSG.I think they store better at 65/70% and smoke better at maybe 60%.
I'm still in the learning process.I have only been smoking cigars for 2 years now and this forum is a wealth of info.Been a member for only 1 1/2 years and have learned so much.Found out about alot of good smokes here,and learned to take care of them. Thanks alot people!!!
 
Unless you have a vast collection of cigars, I would think it would be a pain to try to "store" cigars at a higher Rh than the cigars you want to smoke. I do understand the thought behind this but I like smoking whatever I want on a whim. I wouldn't want to think I was going for a smoke that hadn't been "dry-boxed". I've had my cigars at 62% without any bad effect whatsoever for years.
