I bought a Colibri (first mistake) lighter :angry2: a while ago that came with a pretty little pair of scissors to cut see-gars with. Well...it's too small for most of the cigar ring gauges that I like, so I only use it (barely) only when I cut a torp or beli. But I usually just go with the giutine (sp?) or Xikar (awsome cutter). So I guess the question is..."How many of you use cigar scissors all the time?" Just wunderin'.

I have a pair i just dug up. Now im using them all the time. Think i paid $4, and they are stainless.

Edited to say: i took my Colibri back for a FULL refund, its a pile of junk.

Xikar is what I use (sometimes a punch). I don't care too much for the idea of using scissors. I also use my Colibri all the time. Surprised your not happy with yours - mine works wonderfully.

I recently bought the Xikar Multi-Tool Scissor. I keep it on my keychain for an emergency, but I always go for my Havana single blade. For some reason, this thing works like magic. I've tried other double blades that are ok. The scissor doesn't cut as clean and sometimes the cap gets cracked. The Havana pocket humidor, on a whole is the best cigar investment.

I have xikar multi tool also and love it. Have a cheap lighter with a cutter built into is for fishing trips and out door things. Just incase I lose it.

The only reason I hate Colibri lighters is because THEY SUCK!! I've owned three of them and none of them have ever lasted more than a few months...and I do use Colibri fuel all the time. Just crap lighters...and crap cigar scissors, too. But that's MHO.

I'm very happy with my Xikar. I wonder that high quality sissors, like fine knives, would work great if you get good ones. I'll bet less expensive ones would be like a cheap cutter; compressing and tearing the gar a bit rather than cutting it cleanly.

OT - I have a Collibri that I fight with all the time; despite a diet of that rather pricey Collibri fuel, it works when it feels like it.

Bought three lighters from Little Havana ranging in price from $6.00 to $20.00. They get good fuel (tri filtered purchased from the same place), but work, flawlessly, every time.

No more Collibri's for me, methinks.....

Regards - B.B.S.

When it comes to scissors the Swiss Army knife is the best in my opinion. I have one that has cut over 10,000 cigars and it works just as good today as when I first bought it.

If you're going to be using scissors at your house, there is nothing better than Cutco shears, they'll cut through a penny like butter, so they'll sure as heck cut through your cigar. And when you're done, you can use them to cook dinner with. Just kidding, but they are sharp as all get-out.

I use a Xicar multi tool..I wonder how I ever got along without it..love it to death

I do. I do.

I use the Xikar scissors. Very happy with the Xikar multi tool thingy...and they are made in Italy.

wish i had a $ for every time i heard that, :whistling: i would have a nice collection of cigars

Ok, so I was under the impression that Colibri lighters were the Porsche of torches. Not so, huh? Well, educate me then please. :) I just bought one from cigarbid but they sent me the wrong color. I contacted them and they told me they would allow me to get a refund if I want since they don't have the color in anymore. I wasn't thinking I would return it, but if what several of you are saying is correct, I'd rather spend my hard earned bucks on something more reliable. I spent 37 bucks on the Colbri by the way.

2 Questions:

1. Why the heck does Colibri have such a solid reputation? Is it just marketing?

2. What else would you recommend me getting with my 37 bucks (I don't want to spend any more than that). I do want another torch, but one that is reliable (if one exists).

For a scissor type cut the SAK (Swiss Army Knife) is IMO, the best for the money and cuts better than the Xikar scissors. I own both. I've had my SAK for some 3 or 4 years and its still cutting as good today as the day I bought it.

A drawback to several of the SAK's is the size if you get one with all the "extra" tools. They don't carry well in the pocket. They make a few models that are perfect for carrying all the time. One is their golf model that has a divot repair tool built into it. The other is their slimline model. I carry the stainless steel slimline model and not only does it "fit" well in the pocket it looks great. Much better than that Swiss Army red color. lol

I found one of these, on the ground a few months ago coming out of a cigar store. I just bought another one for $8. It holds a ton of butane and works everytime. I've had many colibris and they all suck! This is the best lighter for the money IMHO. Very reliable.

LOL, I started using this lighter a year ago and love it.
It has three burners and will light a cigar in a hurricane.

I have the Xikar multi tool. The jury is still out for me. It really nice that it fits in you pocket well and has a small awl to deal with plugged gars. Im just not jumping for joy on its cut. Maybe Im just too much of a newb. Oh well. It aint junk and it fits in my pocket which is good enough for me I guess.

For a lighter a couple years ago I got a two-for of these from Thompson.

Gave one to my neighbor and kept the other. It has a triple burner and that sucker will fire up a stick in seconds. Im completly satisfied with it. They're $16 per, two for $25, or 3 for $30 now.

Interesting... that's the torch that I'm trying to find a replacement for  It worked well for about 3 months, then just completely died on me. I'm glad to hear that yours are working out better for you!
