Has anyone ever participated in cigar research?

A close friend has been invited to attend a cigar research event. There were a few stipulations such as, you must attend with someone (they think if your with a friend, you'll be more relaxed) and you must smoke at least an average of 3-5 cigars per week.

This Thursday I will be participating. The research is for 3 hours in a converted warehouse and we have been told their will be plenty of food, drink, TV's, pool tables, etc. The research company is paying all participants $150 cash (were told its non taxable due to the research) to come eat, drink, smoke, and play pool for 3 hours.

Sounds too good to be true but, has anyone else experienced anything like this? My friend has completed other research for the marketing company in the past.

Sounds F*$ked up to me. hope everything works out. Let me know how it goes.

Obviously there not going to be serving Opus or Ashton's, but it has possibilities.

Im assuming it is a new brand trying to get some market research. It is no different then when toy companies test toys on kids.

That explains some of the toys I've seen on the shelves lately. They really shouldn't be boozing up the kids and letting them smoke cigars while testing them...

I've done a couple of tests like this for different products, but never cigars. Good luck! I hope it's not one of those sting operations from the local authorities. :whistling:

Sounds like a "sting" they did here in California some years back. They sent a bunch of "dead beat dads" a notice from the "California Lottery" indicating that they had won a big prize. When everyone showed up they closed the doors and notified each of them that they had owed back child support, had warrants and such.

Maybe this is a similar thing to bust you for unpaid tobacco taxes for internet purchases or for orders made from "another country". :whistling:

Hopefully that is not the case and you get to make a few bucks smoking GOOD cigars.

They won't be good cigars, trust me. They'll be the Walgreens variety, most likely some flavored smokes like Backwoods or such. But, you get paid to smoke them and play pool for a couple hours. What's wrong with that? Come on, we all started out smoking cheapies (most of us, anyway). May as well get paid for it.

I've done a bunch of these market research things, they're usually pretty fun. You get a random group of 10 or 12 people, and they present the product to you and then discuss what you do and don't like about it, and what they could improve. I can't even remember all the things I've done. The good ones involved sampling products, like beer and pizza (reallly! I got paid for that!). Even the kinda-boring ones were fun, like checking out what amounted to an internet browser on a vehicle nav system. Plus they paid CASHOLA. I've done one probably every 6 months or so for many years. The older I get, they more they pay. It used to be $60 for 2 hours, now I get $150-$200 for 2 hours. Once they had too many people, I showed up last so they sent me home with the cash. And they'll feed you with a little sandwich buffet.

Why do I never hear about these kind of things. Even if they are Opus Xs or what not. YOU GET PAID TO SMOKE CIGARS. Wow. Wish I was going.
