Has any one tried the cigar oasis?
I have a 300 and a 100 cigar humidor which i am having headaches keeping a constant humidity in. I am thinking of getting a oasis XL junior for each of them.
Due to the cost of my cigars (import duty, postage and exchange rate),I need to look at a better system than the sponges.
Before anybody says "why don't you buy them in aussie".
A Macanudo Robusto is $40Au for a single cigar.Compared to $12Au from the states(all inclusive).

I think 90% of CP members will recomend You Viper Beads and not some kind of freakin Oasis. ;)

OMG! Its damn expensive. I thought I have expensive cigars in Poland but when I see this then... :0

The beads look very interesting. Just read a blog on how to use them. But are they just a step up from a sponge?

Hmm.. I'm not sure if I understand "step up" term correctly, but if You ask if You can use beads instead of sponge than for sure YES. Puting beads in a humi makes you never ever need anything else :)

the beads are highly recommended because they work extremely well and have had optimal results each time. The sponge isn't as exceptional unless you use the 50/50 solution, where as beads just use distilled water. the oasis works well also, however for the price of half a pound of beads, goes for around one fifth of the cost of a regular oasis, plus the oasis needs batteries (in a battery pack that is usually bought separately). Each device has their pros and cons, however I think the beads has the least cons, and the most pros.

Search is your best friend! Don't be afraid to use it. Oasis is good but the beads just out perform those units! The government of your country doesn't want you or anyone to smoke. The tax is obscene!

Beads.... realease and absorbs moisture when needed. Depending on which RH you decide to purchase (65% or 70%). Only uses distilled water.

Sponge... You are probably using some type of PG 50/50 solution. This is the same stuff the use in antifreeze. This stuff does work, but like I said.... ANTIFREEZE

Cigar Oasis... This works by means of electricity or battery. When more RH is needed it turns itself on and release more humididty into the air.

IMHO... get yourself some beads

Also try contacting Marc (N2Adventure) from Cigarmony.com. He also has the beads and some smaller stuff for the smaller humidors.

I use both in my wine fridge humidor. The beads are awesome. They were all I used in my desktop.

I got the Oasis (In a trade here. Thanks Rod!) because when my fridge kicks on it takes some humidity out of the air and the beads do not recover that humidity as quickly as the Oasis. I still use the beads as a fail-safe in case the Oasis pumps out too much humidity. I have my Oasis plugged in. It can use batteries, but it isn't necessary.

If I were you I'd probably opt for the beads. As long as your humi can hold humidity, the beads are going to work great. If the humi leaks (has a bad seal) you're going to be recharging the beads quite often and any Oasis is going to run almost constantly and need frequent moisture recharging.

I would make sure before going any further that the humi has a decent seal. If it didn't, I'd be taking care of that first. (Thinking cooler here)

Good luck to you!

I like both too, but like the idea of my humidification coming in an "active" form versus the beads passive form.

So, for me its no brainer... I love the Cigar Oasis.

Another vote for beads. I bought a used humidor that came with beads. I touch of distilled water and I have not had to touch it. From time to time, more water may be needed, but beads do not require any babysitting like the sponges require.

I'm saving up for beads in my other humi. I'm sold!!

I use Beads (actually Kitty Litter Humidification sorry Viper) and an Oasis. The hygro on my Oasis is way off but once I got it dialed in it works great.

I'm fairly new here, but I love my Oasis. Seems to be doing the trick thus far.

A bit off topic, but how did you dial in your Oasis ddepaola? Salt test? If so, how did you accomplish this with the size of the Oasis?

Thanks!

Rob

Thanks everyone.
I am going to try the beads and see how i go.
"JEFF 1101"......Good answer mate, with the amount of money my cigars cost me i need better than a sponge.
I am going to use beads in my 100 cigar humi and an oasis in my 300 humi.

I have been having huge issues keeping my humidor at a constant RH. I got the beads and since, it has been a steady 65. Why oh why did I F around with all that other crap. Definately worth the investment. Heartfelt is a quality company to deal with as well. Got my order quickly and as promised. (Viper if you are reading thanks so much).

Good advice and good site(heartfelt industries). Thanks mate.
And to all who replied

Don't believe anyone that tells you that beads work better than sponge or oasis works better than beads or sponge works better than..... in theory they all do the exact same thing, maintain humidity. Some involve more care than others until you get things dialed in but once you do they work just fine. Its really a personal choice as one works no better than the other when used properly.

Do a search on all three and you should get all the info you need about whats right for you. Everyone here has a tendency to recommend what works best for them..... which might not be what works best for you.

Cast another vote here for KLH user.

Actually ethylene glycol is what is used in antifreeze not propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is perfectly safe to use with cigars and is what you will find in those 50/50 solutions.

We did have a member here at one time that argued that Ethylene glycol was safe and he had been using it for years..... I'm sure someone will soon post pictures of the cigars this individual traded here.

Respectfully I cant say that I agree with that. The Viper beads will also absorb humidity while the others wont. I use a Cigar Oasis in my large humidor I made and it works well. The calibration of the unit was way off as mentioned, but once I got it dialed in, it's been spot on. Basically you need to calibrate a hygrometer and then compare it to the digital readout of the oasis and make your adjustments there.

But in answer to the question, I too am a bead advocate. I'm just starting the design process of a large armoire humidor which will have more of an active humidification system and beads in combination. I use beads in both my 120ct and 90ct coolerdoors and they too are spot on.
