[quote name='EMO'S_GRRL' date='Aug 19 2005, 06:54 PM'][quote name='tdog' date='Aug 19 2005, 06:52 PM']A definition for "tact" I saw posted in a Human Resource office at one of my former locations that I was employed:

Tact: the art of building a fire underneath someone without making their blood boil.

hmmm- anyone here thinking salem?

I have a feeling their blood boiled along with the rest of them...

Marine Tact:

The ability to tell somebody to "Go to Hell" and have them look forward to the trip.

Marine Tact:

The Captain called the Sergeant in. "Sarge, I just got a telegram that Private Jones' mother died yesterday. Better go tell him and send him in to see me."

So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation and lines up all the troops. "Listen up, men," says the Sergeant. "Johnson, report to the mess hall for KP. Smith, report to Personnel to sign some papers. The rest of you men report to the Motor Pool for maintenance. Oh by the way, Jones, your mother died, report to the commander."

Later that day the Captain called the Sergeant into his office. "Hey, Sarge, that was a pretty cold way to inform Jones his mother died. Couldn't you be a bit more tactful, next time?"

"Yes, sir," answered the Sarge.

A few months later, the Captain called the Sergeant in again with, "Sarge, I just got a telegram that Private McGrath's mother died. You'd better go tell him and send him in to see me. This time be more tactful."

So the Sergeant calls for his morning formation. "Ok, men, fall in and listen up. Everybody with a mother, take two steps forward. NOT SO FAST, McGRATH!"

More tact:

NEVER ASK A GUNNY...
Richard Mullins

A young Marine officer was in a serious car accident, but the only visible permanent injury was to both of his ears, which were amputated. Since he wasn't physically impaired he remained in the Marine and eventually rose to the rank of General. He was, however very sensitive about his appearance. One day the General was interviewing three Marines for his personal aide. The first was an aviator, and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview the General asked him, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

The young officer answered," why yes, sir. I couldn't help but notice that you have no ears." The general got very angry at the lack of tact and threw him out.

The second interview was with a femaleLieutenant, and she was even better. The General asked her the same question, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

She replied, "Well, sir, you have no ears." The General threw her out also. The third interview was with a Marine Gunny. He was articulate, looked extremely sharp and seemed to know more than the two officers combined (surprise).

The General wanted this guy, and went ahead with the same question, "Do you notice anything different about me?"

To his surprise the Gunny said, "Yes sir; you wear contacts lenses."

The General was very impressed and thought, what an incredibly observant Gunny, and he didn't mention my ears. "And how do you know that I wear contacts?" The General asked.

The sharp-witted Gunny replied, "Well, sir, it's pretty hard to wear glasses with no freaking ears."

Ok not a joke and deals with Tact 100%. In my honest opinion this guy should be awarded the highest honor bestowed upon an American Hero.

Real Marine

Oh and as a side note: If more people thought like him, talked like him, and walked the walk he walks then this war and many others would be over tomorrow.

Right on Genral...we got a "thumbs up" smilie here? But wooooo...you should check out the other links on that page...that guy is into serious racial s**t, not that I disagree with him too much...I wish I could disagree but I can't...these terrorist fanatics spawn from one breeding ground and everyone knows what that is...you don't see many Christians or Jews or Buddhists causing so much heartache and death and destruction in the name of their G-d...I just wouldn't go so far as to make my views that public...

Those who ignore history are comdemed to repeat it.

The Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Spanish Conquest of Central America, Pogroms in eastern Europe. Let's not forget the Christian germans either. Yep, Christians are innocent. ;)

You can read Flavius Josephus for early Jewish warfare and there is always a strong case that our entry into WW1 was because of the Balfour Declaration.

Gautama was a warrior-prince before he became the Buddah. Currently in Sri Lanka Buddhists are fighting againt the Tamil. Of course, there are always the Japanese Buddhists in case you forgot about them.

Killing in the name of God is not limited to any one religion but rather a part of all of them.

Except I was referring to today, not ancient history...it's the 21st century...this crap should be over and done with by now...and as for repeating history when not learning from it, don't forget that the last time the Islamic Genii poked it's head out of the bottle, about a thosand years ago, to try and conquer the world, it took the combined monarchs of Europe almost two centuries to stuff them back into their bottle again...do we really want this s**t to go on for another hundred years or so? They seem to feel that it's their right to try and force the world into living and thinking like they do as they want to set us back about a thousand years and I doubt humanity would survive that...it would be fine if they just did their thing and left everyone else alone to belive as they will, but if you've ever read any of the Koran (and I have) it teaches them that one of their main goals should be to force the rest of the world into submission...which, btw, is an accurate translation of the arabic word "islam"...they would have you belive it means "peace"...it does not...it means "submission"...now if you really want a middle eastern word for "peace," it comes from Hebrew...it's "shalom"...another btw, our entry into WW1 was not because of the Balfour Declaration if you really know your history...it was because of a bunch of fueding, squabbling, European monarchs that were all cousins fighting over land...the King of England, The German Kaiser, and the Russian Czar were all related and were nephews of Queen Victoria...read your history...

Are you speaking of when the Arabs took Crete, Sicily and Sardinia in 826? Or after the Arabs took most of Spain around 900 and made it the most cultural place on the European continent for the next 60+ years? Or when they took back "The Holy Lands" in 1009? They were there first you know.

Perhaps you mean the Crusades where at the Council of Clermont Pope Urban II called for a holy war to wrest control of Jerusalem from Muslims. This caused the First Crusade in 1096. See, it was "our" side that called for the holy war. Holy War is the correct translation not just something I put in to strengthen my point.

I've read my history and that is why I said there could be a strong case. Obviously, something as entwined as WW1 is not hinged upon one item but many. Balfour has it's place in the causes of our entry into the war and I happen to think it is more important then is normally given.
