Cedar Wrapper......

Damn, I need some advice, before I burn the car up! :(

The other day, I'm cruisin' around town(slow day in "The 'Port", and decided to light my smoke. I had heard of all of the smokes that have the cedar wrapper so I figured I'd try one. I stopped into the "Party Source" and picked up a smoke with the aforementioned wrapper. Paid for it and out the door I went.

Pulled it out of the cello and boy did it smell good! :D Clipped the tip and broke out the lighter. Well, everything went well at first as the wrapper was about 1" above the foot. I took a couple of puffs and man, the smoke was plentiful and the taste was great. Then all hell broke loose! :angry2:

Once the embers(for lack of a better term) hit the cedar, she satrted smokin' like smolderin' leaves. Good smell but overpowering. Then, all of a sudden the dang thing caught on fire. Damn near burnt my cruiser up! I snuffed it out and gave it one more chance, figuring everyone raves about these things. Same stuff about 5 minutes later. So out the window it went. $8.00 down the drain. :(

Anyone here have any luck gettin' the cedar to burn evenly? I sure would appreciate any advice on this one. Thanks in advance!

You know, there will probably be an increase in house fires this week from people reading this post and taking it seriously.

:p

LMAO.

Soak the cedar in lighter fluid and I think it should light fairly well.

I always slip the cedar sleeve down a bit and toast it around the edges first Floyd. And don't forget to remove the tape that sometimes hold the sleeve "round" - you ain't suppose to smoke the tape.

I actually leave the tape on until the glue loosens up. It makes it easier to remove and doesn't damage the cedar as much. Just my .02!

You have to leave the cello on. It helps to control the burn.

I'll try that next time! :)

By the way Hawk, can you correct my spelling errors before quoting me too? I don't want to look foolish.

Only 10 times better Brandon? You underestimate me. ;) For the record, I only smoke well aged cedar too.

You made a classic newbie mistake. For cedar wrapper cigars, you have to keep the cello *on* while smoking them or they will not burn evenly. The "cello" in "cellophane" comes from cellulose, ie, wood -- so contrary to popular belief, it's not plastic, and it is perfectly safe (and in this case, mandatory) to light it.

Give it a shot. Happy trails!

Okay FuenteGuru, what about the ribbon at the foot of AFs finest? ???

Ribbon on, ribbon off?

So it's necessary to also light the ribbons on the Anejos?

The ribbons are red to indicate fire; it's a subtle, classy way of saying "light here" -- the red ribbon also acts as an excellent catalyst to get the cigar burning properly, akin to light fluid on your coal briquettes.
