CAO america

Ok, I'll give you all a nice short review.

NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

There is an abundance of flavor, ranging from a slight harshness (possibly due to the abundance of wrapper), a slight creaminess, a slight nuttiness, and some earthy undertones. Now, before you go on thinking "Oh my, this cigar sounds great so far!!!", let me use an analogy. You know how a kaleidoscope works? It's a prism in a cylinder, and you turn it around to see all the colors of the light as well as the compound rotations of the objects within the field of vision, well the CAO America was like a kaleidoscope, only it can't turn. There was no depth of flavor, just many flavors that didn't blend well together, nor did they evolve, devolve, nor revolve. So if you are a fan of all these flavors and like an hour of monotonous smoking, then this cigar is for you.

I found it hard to believe that someone could screw up such a combination of flavors... in that respect, CAO America is truly an impressive cigar.

Don't waste your time on them. The construction is a joke.

I saw them for the first time this week, and that was the exact feeling I got. There were 3 boxes in the shop I was at, and on every single cigar I saw, the wrapper looked like it was rolled by a guy with one hand behind his back. Immediately turned off, I grabbed some Padilla's instead.

This is what I thought. The pictures I saw online made this cigar look inviting and I eagerly anticipated the time when I would have an opportunity to try one. Then last week a local shop got some in. What I saw was really disappointing. The construction looked reallly bad. The "barber pole" effect was very inconsistent and poorly done. Everything about the cigar (construction, smell, feel) said "go pick out something else" :(

I disagree, the Landmark that I had was very tastey and had good construction. I say "dont knock it until you smoke it". Only issue i have is the ring gauge is a bit large.

Do yourself a favor, try one. They're only $7 or something like that.

Good point but one would expect that they could spend a little time making the thing look good. The ones I have seen really looked poorly constructed - especially the wrapper.

It's a CAO, what were you guys hoping for? :sign:

I'll still give them a shot, seeing as I've tried ever other CAO product.

Exactly. I know "don't judge a book by its cover," but since the cover on these books is an integral part of the book, you have to. I have no problem trying something new, regardless of what the "reviews" say. But looking poorly done on the outside, I added another buck or so and grabbed a new Padilla for me to try instead.

Had a monument sitting in my humi for a couple months now and decided to give it a try last night.. I have to agree that the construction was not that great looking and was proven when I cut it because it unravelled a bit and required a lil spit to keep it together. It was an ok smoke.. Nothing to go crazy over by any means but ok for what I kind of feel is more of a novelty cigar. It had some burn issues too where it needed a couple relights.

I like them, no burn issues for me. It is "non spicy" though so if you are really into Pepin i would stay away.

I've smoked just about all the CAO's and while some are decent, I still feel that they keep trying, but have yet to blend a "great" cigar.

It's funny that this thread came up today. I smoked the robusto size last night after work. It had a tight draw and burned a little uneven. It did have a mild-med flavor on the draw, but no finish at all. Just tobacco taste left in your mouth. Half way through I chucked it in the street and torched up my goto Don Pepin Blue.

Age might change these for the better. But I won't buy another.

I smoked a monument and was not impressed by the cigar at all. Burn and construction was good IMO, but there wasn't much to the taste. CAO Gold and Brasilia much better. Heard good things about the Italia, but have yet to smoke one.

The Italia is good but not as good as the Gold maduro..imho.

I got a box of momuments that I am sitting on. I think they are ok, hopefully with time they will get better.

G&C88 - Where'd you pick it up? I haven't seen them anywhere. I've heard good things from the guys that smoked them at RTDA.

:p Jeff, you need to look in the other humidor once in a while, we have several boxes. :D

Mike, you know what's funny? I've been to the shop three times now, and this last time was the first time I've walked into the "other" humidor.

Jeff couldn't find these when they first came out. This thread started several months ago, but someone dug it up a couple of days ago.

I've smoked 6 or 8 of these and enjoyed every one of them. After reading all the negative early reviews I wasn't expecting much. However, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Contrary to what I read from one contributor on this thread I found the construction to be outstanding on all the sticks I've smoked. This is definitley going to be one of my go to smokes. Can't wait to get my hands on some more.

I've had a handful of these and all were poorly constructed. Its as if its trying to be a substitute for the 2007 Camacho Liberty. I find that the Britalia (Brasilia/Italia hybrid) is a superior smoke. OVTC has them.

can't type for shite

Kramero622 there is something about you that makes me think you are a man of great integrity and taste......
