I'm wondering if I can do something that blatant self-promotion, but it's also fun?

I own www.humidorbeads.com These beads are similar to Hearthfelt beads, but they aren't. Heartfelt beads are engineered 70% or 65% humidity beads. They have exactly that RH "memory". Humidorbeads.com beads are a more generic bead that are "precharged" to 70% RH, but don't have the same "memory" as an engineered product. Anyway, on to the contest...

I was always amused by the "recipes" that Heinz would put on their Ketchup bottle. They would make me think, why not have a recipe like, "Pour 10 bottles of Heinz Ketchup in a big pot. Add salt. Heat and eat. If you don't like it throw it out. But at least you bought 10 bottles of our Ketchup."

So, this contest is:

HOW TO BEST USE THE MOST HUMIDITY BEADS from WWW.HUMIDORBEADS.COM CONTEST. (blatant self-promotion. I know I can't help it. I'm sure most of the submissions will be more funny than useful. I will accept only one suggestion on where to physically stick them up my body. LOL)

Pictures, drawings, cartoons and diagrams earn extra points.

There will be TWO WINNERS. One will be the most entertaining suggestion. The other winner will be the most practical and useful suggestion.

Let's say the contest runs until January 7th. If I can figure out how to do a poll on the site to pick the winner, I will. Otherwise I'll just pick the one (for each category) I like the best. Winner gets 5 sticks from my humidor. At the end of the contest I'll email the winner the list of sticks I have at the time. I have to email it because I have some unmentionable sticks.

Other than the unmentionable I have Graycliff, a couple kinds of 5 Vegas "A" series, lots of Rocky Patel Vintage variations, CAO Brazilia Samba, CAO VR Black, El Rey Del Mundo, Gran Habano Corojo #5, and Oliva Serie G. Those are boxes. I also have different singles.

EACH WINNER PICKS ANY 5 STICKS. (TWO WINNERS TOTAL) CONTEST ENDS JANUARY 7, 2008 Get your suggestions in!

This is a great site, btw. I'm glad I found it.

Am I missing something? Sounds like your beads are kitty litter beads. From the picture on your site, they look like the ones you can get from Petsmart at $12 for 8 lbs.

Humidify cigars and catch cat piss? Did I win? If you are a vendor you really need to move this over into that area.

Discourage moochers by turning your good cigars into cat rockets with our Eu de Feline beads. Guaranteed to stay crunchy, even in milk.

Did I win?

And I agree this would be better served in the vendor area.

I don't get this comment. If they are "precharged" to 70% but don't have a memory like "engineered" beads, what are they and what purpose do they serve? If they are 100% silica beads are they not doing the same thing as the engineered beads?

Oh well on to the contest....................stick my feet in the beads and let them hydrate my rough, dry, cracking, painful feet :D or.......stick my ex-mother-in-law in them and preserve her for eternity to remind me why I divorced her daughter!

Fill the library of congress with them and hold it ransom for millions of dollars. Tell the authorities they only have a couple hours until the rare books reach a dangerous humidity level and all will be lost!

Sure. www.humidorbeads.com are a generic silica bead that can maintain different humidities based on how much you hydrate them. This is because they have different sized channels and pores in them. The heartfelt beads are engineered (based on my understanding) to a very specific pore size that will only maintain one RH level, 70% or 65% for instance. The humidorbeads.com beads are used in many cigar retailers and clubs in their countertop display humidors. Some use Propylene Glycol as a hydrator (which sets the beads to 70% since propylene glycol has a natural bias toward 70% rh) and others use distilled water. Even the Heartfelt beads will stop humidifying your enclosure if you don't regularly re-charge them with distilled water. What the heartfelt beads do (or claim to do) that these don't is absorb excess humidity so your humidor won't go over the engineered preset of the beads. Different people use different products. This is simply one. They are sold in true 1/2 lb quantities (some others sites show 1/2 lb pricing but they only sell in 1 lb quantities). And they ship the same day or next day in almost all instances. Shipping the same for 1/2 lb order or 1 lb order ($4.95) and shipping is free for orders of 2 lb or more.

I hope that answered your questions.

First, I like your contest entry.

Second, here's a little known fact that I just made up: Rubbing www.humidorbeads.com beads on your body will remove stripper scent, lipstick, mistress perfume so you wife won't find out, AND they eliminate all STD's. It's True!

Now, on to your question. The "engineering" aspect of a "memory" bead has to do with controlling the size of the pores in the bead. If you have all the same pore size then you have a specific RH (or so the theory goes). So you could engineer a bead to have 45% RH or 88% RH. That creates a more specific and more expensive bead. The heartfelt beads have this type of pore size control. www.humidorbeads.com beads have a range of pore sizes, so they can maintain a wider range of relative humidity, based on how much you hydrate them.

A lot of people find that there are many elements to controlling RH in their humidor, so they simply monitor it and adjust it as required. There's nothing you can simply put in a humidor and leave it forever without monitoring, recharging, etc. Everything takes a certain amount of attention. So, that's the difference. The other difference is price and quantity and flexibility. Ours have a lower price for more quanity and have a flexible RH, you control it. "Precharged to 70%" means that when you get them they are hydrated to 70% RH. You can put them directly into a conditioned humidor. So, there you go.

If your mother in law disappears be sure to come back and delete your entry to this contest. LOL :whistling:

Thanks for the explanation.....now I am thoroughly confused ??? I was under the impression that "any" silica bead could be "conditioned" to any RH over a period of 2-3 weeks in the corresponding controlled RH environment? These damn things are smarter than I am!

At this point it's a race between Verhoevc and CigarStone. There's 3 more days if anyone else want to enter a funny or useful submission for www.humidorbeads.com beads. The winner gets to raid my humidor, which includes Graycliff Crystal, 5 Vegas, El Rey Del Mundo, Oliva Serie G, CAO, Gran Habano, the full line of Rocky Patel Vintage and one I would need to email you. Plus I'm gettinga shipment of 601 Serie.

To enter just start your post with:
"How to use humidorbead.com beads.."

Funny wins, useful wins. The contest ends on the 7th of Jan. The winner get to raid my humidor for 5 smokes.

Meh, I'll whore myself out for this.

humidorbead.com beads think, so you don't have to.

humidorbead.com...keeping your holiday fruitcake at the perfect 70% humidity levels.

I'll go ahead and throw in a practical one as well... can I win for BOTH funny and practical and get 10? hahahaha.
A practical use for humidorbeads.com's beads would be to turn an old antique into a closet humidor. Line it with cedar and throw in a couple pounds of beads and you've got yourself a new HUGE humidor for the low cost of beads.

Okay I'll play. Here's a little jingle:

Cigars galore at the store, buy a bundle each.
In the humi, why so gloomy, RH did not reach?
Well here it is, humibeads, no more need to worry!
Add some distilled carefully, but do it in a hurry.
For those stogies are drying fast, nasty to the tongue.
Go online, get 'em now at humibeads.com

 :D
