Calling all IBEW members

I'm a member of Local 98 IBEW in Philly. From my experience the union is strong here and lots of work in the area. I'm not an electrician but work in the TV business and anyone doing any technical work (like editing, cameras, etc.) are all IBEW.

I don't know if that helps... but if you need a contact name or something let me know. And I can ask around and see if there's a way to get you in touch with someone who could really help out.

Getting ready to start my own contracting business, I think. Not a member of the union anymore though and will be non-union if I have my own shop. Not worth it to me plus I was not treated well when I was a member. But, there are a couple projects that are going to be rush jobs around here that they may need travelers for. Call 193 out of Springfield, Illinois and see if what they have on the list. May be something that could keep you busy for a short run. then you could see how traveling is.

Well Jay, if you're coming up to Tone_ny's place, I got some work for ya a few hours NE.

I can guarantee ya some good times, smokes, beer and good times!

OK

All you east side'rs get ready, looks like a three state tour.

Just look for the BIG WHITE van that has WILL WORK FOR CIGARS on the side.

Really guys thanks for the good words.

Jay

Not part of IBEW, but I am a union sprinklerfitter and have had to travel from time to time. In fact probably will be back on the road soon, its not bad but not like coming home every nite. Pm if you need so advice!!

If you like I can make some calls to my boys in Jersey, especially Alantic City and see what happens.

Good Luck Brother

Mark

I told you that P.E. Nis Wiring and Repair Co. wasn't such a good company name, especially plastered in big blue letters on the side of the work van. :whistling:

Jay,

One of my friends is a union electrician and big cigar smoker. Last I heard work was strong here in the tri-state area. If you are seriously looking to come here to the tri-state area send me a PM and I'll call him and fine out more info to see if they are looking for more people from the outside.

my best friend did it for a while. he traveled into the city and then went and traveled into GA
what he did was get together with a couple of the other travels and they rented a house and split it between all of them to keep the living expenses down.

The up date:

Went south into OHIO and Kentucky signed the books, hoping some thing comes from that.

Talked with my Union Rep. about going to Outside Lineman, he gave me the run around.

Sent apps out to LU 1393,LU 369 and LU 70 all Outside lineman trade.

40 year old apprentice. Kind of a joke really, but with 20 good years left why not.

Maybe it will put some of the MAN back in me. Become a little soft over the years.

Thanks for looking out guys.

LOL!!!! I lasted three weeks as an outside lineman. First week was great. Second and third week found me falling off poles three times, once from ~20' with 40 lbs. of tools on. Since then I've stayed off of wood poles as much as possible. LOL! Steel poles and towers, now that's a different story. LOL!

You can weld rungs on them steel poles.

There is a lot of work around the Washington DC area. L. H. Cranston up in Baltimore is a good one to work for as is Ennis Electric in Manassas VA. PM me if you want any more information.

Thanks again guys.

Tried talking with my BA again, looks like if 58 is not looking for lineman either is my BA. LOL

Vincent, I will give your man a call tomorrow.

UPDATE.

Looks like Franklin Furnace area is going to be my new home for a month or two. South end of OHIO, Kentuky border town.

I will be working out of the Portsmouth hall. Any advice from those of you who have traveled in the past would be great.

Any CP members down in the area that would like to have a smoke PM me.

Not sure how the little lady is taking it. I know she supports me but they never want to be alone.

Passed my written test with the DMV for my CDL"A" need to find a driving test location down in OHIO.

Once that is all done I will send my ap. in for Outside Lineman.

All this comes on the heals of my Uncle Passing away Thursday. His showing is Monday and Funeral is Tuesday.

I sure hate to up a leave but with no work for 4 months, I just have to. Going to talk with the Family today about it.

Hope I am doing the right thing. Funny the little test life put out there for us.

Hey Jay,

That's a real awful deal about your uncle. I was in the middle of a similar life-question struggle not so long ago.

If you want to discuss it over a smoke before you leave, let me know.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

I am going to be out and about all day today, getting ready for a 2 mouth work Vacation LOL.

The Irish restaurant on Haggerty road would be good for lunch and a smoke, what do you say.

The little women will be with me, she will not let me out of her sight today after all... LOL
