Hey guys,

I just made a movie that is to cigars what "Sideways" was to wine....it's about cigars, poker and women. Very cool, very edgy....it deals with what men talk about when women aren't around. Stars a bunch of great young actors and Estella Warren in a really good performance.
It's available on DVD....Check out the website www.blowingsmokethemovie.com.
There are reviews of this movie on imdb.com as well.
There was a piece on this movie in the Cigar Aficionado last year; you might have seen it. Anyway, it's about time someone made a movie that treated cigars as something more than just a prop.

Thanks for the info. I read that article. Was hoping it would come to a theater near me. I bet it won't make it to cable either.

Damn Ric, you called it. The movie must have really tanked for someone from the production to shill for it on the boards

"Just saw"? Hmmm....

Movie written and directed by: James Orr (born in 1953)

:whistling:

Oddly enough, according to the website, Orr produced and directed 'The Fuente Family: An American Dream' - which would have made more sense to mention here (although I guess honesty isn't his thing).

James Orr also dated and was convicted of assualt for severely beating Farrah Fawcett IMDB article - E article

???

Dang you guys are sharp

It may be spam, but the movie sounds like it could be decent... Has anyone seen the movie or heard non biased reviews on it?

I looked for it on Netflix, all they have is a comedy with a similiar name.

His original post started out "I just saw a movie..." and now it has been edited to state "I just made a movie...".

Interesting.

Hadn't even noticed that - Good thing the quote feature retains the original post :p

If someone does get a copy, it would make an interesting addition to a pass for people to watch and pass on. I'd be up for watching it, I'm not going to pre-judge a movie on someone's personal legal issues (that would rule out most movies ever made ;) ),but I'm done buying DVD's without seeing the movies first - I have too many duds in my collection as it is.

here's his second post at the snobbery.

I guess this clears things up a bit:

A couple of years ago I made "The Fuente Family: An American Dream" and "Fuente Fuente OpusX; The Making of A Legend". Those were documentaries, and I was proud to have made them.

I wanted to, however, make a story-based film about cigars...but that was a more daunting and expensive task. Finally I found a producer with the same vision and love of cigars I have, and we made the movie "Blowing Smoke". It was a genuine labor of love.

The genesis of the idea for "Blowing Smoke" came one day when I was smoking with a bunch of guys at a cigar club in LA.
I noticed that when men were together smoking, the conversation often ended up on the topic of women; and very often what was said was quite harsh, revealing a deep-rooted frustration with the female gender.

This one day, after many minutes of dissing women, a gorgeous woman walked into the cigar club and crossed the room. All the men, who had been railing on and on about women, immediately stopped and watched this beauty, in quiet yearning, until she had crossed and sat down.
Then after a short beat, they all went back to dissing women.
I thought this was not only revealing, but downright hysterical.

That's how the story of "Blowing Smoke" was born.

On top of that, I wanted to make sure that cigars were used in the movie in an authentic way. We used 7 of the greatest cigar brands available, plus a few cubans. And we schooled the actors for days on cigar-smoking technique, so they would be believable as cigar veterens.

All too often, cigars are merely set decoration, or something for an actor to hold. In "Blowing Smoke", cigars are virtually characters in the story.

Anyway, that's probably more than you wanted to know. The point is "Blowing Smoke" was made for, and about, the cigar brotherhood.

That's why I'm posting on cigar discussion boards...because, not only are you our audience, but the movie is actually about you!

<snipped>

Definately a better post, and definately shows he's reading the responses. When people stop marketing and start being real, they usually get the results they were looking for in the first place. ;)

Pretty high praise if you ask me. I too will reserve judgement until I see the movie but I seriously doubt it's in the same league as the Alexander Payne masterpiece.
