I hope SD's not gambling away all his money :p
Las Vegas isn't big enough to take all of my money. :p

I have safely returned home. We had a great time.

I will get the latest reviews up soon. Everyone else get busy if you haven't sent them in yet.

Excellent!!

Just be sure to make nice-nice with Mabeline, she's probably ticked at you for leaving her home alone for so long :D

Review Cigar #34 - blair

Romeo Y Julieta - Petit Coronas 1998 5x42

Appearance: Fair

Appearance Notes
not much to look at. There was a large green-grayish circle about midway down.

Construction: Fair

ConstructionNotes
A thin vein ran the length of the cigar. Flakey foot.

Burn: Uneven
Problems: None Found
AshColor: Dark Grey
AshStructure: Typical
Draw: Perfect
Aroma: Poor
Smoked_To: To the Band
Strength: Bland
Recommended: No
Scale: Blah...
Class: Regular

TasteNotes
Pleasant at the very start but no discernable flavors. Rather uneventful for th! e first half. It then turned a bit grassy.

OverallNotes
Not too good. I put it down just past half way. It, however, refused to leave me alone and had a long, poor, finish. As to the guess the cigar game, I have no idea. But if I had to I'd say Don Diego.

Review Cigar #25 - blair

25. Montesino Super Belicosos Sungrown 6.7x52 $5.00

Appearance: Perfect

AppearanceNotes
Beautiful glossy belicoso (Connecticut?) maduro.

Construction: Poor (was this a mistake? (based on your construction notes))

ConstructionNotes
Wrapped wonderfully. It couldn't have been done better. But it was very underfilled. Nice long filler, but there wasn't much there!

Burn: Even
Problems: Got Soft
AshColor: White
AshStructure: Typical
Draw: Too Easy
Aroma: Fair
Smoked_To: To the Band
Strength: Medium
Recommended: Yes
Scale: Decent/Worthy
Class: Bundled Cigar

TasteNotes
Tons of thick smoke. The first third was terrific! It had very creamy thick smoke. Very enjoyable with a great coffee flavor. Or was that the coffee that I was drinking with it? No, it was the cigar. (just kidding, I wasn't drinking coffee. I was drinking a root beer. Just kidding, I wasn't drinking a root beer but I did want one. So I went to search the refridgerator; crap, no root beer! - ok back to the cigar...) There was definately a coffee flavor there, but then I couldn't help but think that began to turn buttery. It was a fascinating cigar to start with. But it was terrible underfilled and began to run hot which put an end to the flavors about half way through. I stuck it out to the band but unfortunately it was just too soft to remain enjoyable.

OverallNotes
Great start. I should think that if this wasn't a second (due to its lack of filler), it got lucky and snuck its way into the box. Either way, it was a fun cigar and I'd give it another go anytime.

The Manufacturer Said: Richer, fuller-bodied torpedos from the Fuente factory.

What SD Said: Another good cigar for blair and it gets a "bundled" review! :p

Review Cigar #26 - alph chomper

26. El Rico Habano Torpedo - MADURO 6x54 $4.50

Appearance: Outstanding

AppearanceNotes
Nice Maduro with a hint of a box pressed foot. Maybe a 5 1/2 to 6 with a 50 guage, if memory serves me. I losy my notes, and they were wet anyway. Real glossy nearly oily wrapper. The kind to make me drool. mmmm

Construction: Outstanding

ConstructionNotes
This s! moke was well rolled, firm throughout. Good looking single cap.

Burn: Even
Problems: None Found
AshColor: Light Grey
AshStructure: Very Solid
Draw: Perfect
Aroma: Good
Smoked_To: To the Band
Strength: Medium
Recommended: Yes
Scale: Good Cigar
Class: Premium

TasteNotes
I had this at the Sound Tigers hockey game Sunday afternoon in a mild to medium rain. Smoked itbtween the 1st and 2nd, missed most of the 2nd period.

OverallNotes
Real nice smoke, probably in the low to mid price range, but that's the kind of guy I am. I love the look and aroma of a nice maddie, and this was right in my wheelhouse. No pretentions, no complaints.

The Manufacturer Said: La Gloria Cubana? Try this.

But El Rico Habano is the lesser known but even fuller-flavored, stronger blend made by Ernesto Carillo of La Gloria Cubana fame. El Rico Habano line is one of the most robust premium cigars on the market. With a delicious, exquisite Havana-like flavor, these are wrapped in lush reddish-brown Colorado wrappers. Full and surprisingly smooth, this is a great evening smoke especially after a rich meal. Easy draw and well-packed.

Newly released at the 2003 RTDA show was the El Rico Habano Maduro. Packed with robust flavor and some definite strength, this recent addition offers a super rich, incredibly smooth smoke. No bite on the maduro; this baby is so mellow and smooth, you'll be burning your fingertips before you know it.

Cigar Aficionado's Insider rated the brand an '89': "Good color to this cigar, which is slightly veiny and has a poorly made cap. It's full of rich, earthy flavors with notes of leather and wood. A medium to full-bodied cigar with a long, chalky finish."

Review Cigar #15 - CoventryCat86

Bock y Ca Corona Minor 5.00 x 46 $1.50

Appearance: Good

AppearanceNotes
Good looking cigar.

Construction: Outstanding

ConstructionNotes
Nice construction, nice cap.

Burn: Very Even
Problems: None Found
AshColor: Light Grey
AshStructure: Typical
Draw: Perfect
Aroma: Fair
Smoked_To: To the Band
Strength: Bland
Recommended: No
Scale: Ho-Hum
Class: Premium

TasteNotes
This cigar had very little taste, reminds me of a bland Dominican.

OverallNotes
The burn, draw and construction were very, very good but the taste was so bland, I was disappointed

The Manufacturer Said: Bock y Ca was the very first brand that had to deal with the problem of being counterfeited. Its owner, Gustav Bock, combatted the problem by creating the first-ever cigar band 150 years ago so smokers could distinguish his brand from others. Today's Bock features this historic band and is handmade in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Each cigar is pressed and individually sleeved to help retain its distinct shape. Medium in strength, this age-old brand is mellow and enjoyable. The Oscuro-wrapped cigars' flavors are earthy and sweet - a must try for Maduro lovers.

What SD Said: You missed the class Bro. Good review though. <that rhymed> :p

RyJ: Wow! What a surprise. I have had never had one of these before. Unfortunately I think I have a couple of them in my humi. Oh well, they'll make great trading material. Someone else else might love 'em!

Montesino This was a great cigar. It looked and tasted terrific. I gave it the "poor" construction rating based solely on the fact that it was underfilled. A perfect wrap isn't everything. There has to be tobacco underneath! I gave it the "bundled" rating for the same reason. I said "I should think that if this wasn't a second (due to its lack of filler)" to imply that it might be a second to a great cigar. It was very light and soft. The made a mistake by pakaging this one. But, assuming this one is out of the norm, I would happily buy a box because it was, otherwise, an excellent cigar (IMHO).

SD, thanks for the awesome game! I think you may have just started a new facet of CP!!

:D

Alrighty - As you know from my post earlier, I've been fighting a bit of a cold - which totally sucked. This thing just wouldn't go away. I'd start feeling better, and then been totally congested the next day - or sniffly, or sore throat, or... well you get the idea. I didn't want to trust me cold-affected senses for my first official cigar review, and thus - was waiting. But the bottom line is this:
For 48 hours now, I've been A-OK. 1st cigar gets smoked today.

Thanks for your patience. Glad I'm not the only left you guys are waiting for ;)

Dave :D

:( I'm suffering a cold right now... have been for about a week. I feel for ya Dave. I havn't had a cigar in a week and I'm dying for one!!!!!!! :sneaky: But when I'm sick cigars don't taste good and make me feel worse... so I'm holdin out too......... Not that any of you cared, but I thought I'd add to the post anyway :p

Heres a review I did. It wasn't Blind. Just a review.

Padron 1926 Anniversaire No 6 Natural SN#511633 about $15 ???

Appearance: Perfect

AppearanceNotes
The cigar was an almost square pressed stick. It looked wonderful. No veins to be found.`

Construction: Perfect

ConstructionNotes
Wonderfully made stick. Experience shows here.

Burn: Very Even
Problems: None Found
AshColor: Light Grey
AshStructure: Very Solid
Draw: Perfect
Aroma: Good
Smoked_To: To the Band
Strength: Full
Recommended: Yes

TasteNotes
The taste of this cigar didn't turn me on much. I think it is because it is a Natural. I absolutely love the 1964 maduros. This is the first 26 I have had. It is not sweet at all. All dirt and wood. Lots of spice. The last half had tons of nicotine. I like nicotine. The last 98 PAM had black tar running out of the end and it was by far the best cigar I have ever had... ISOM included.

OverallNotes
Visually, I was very impressed. Tasting the cigar left a lot to be desired. It just didn't do it for me. ??? If this had been a blind review, I would not have smoked it past the ash falling off. This cigar was gifted to me and out of respect, I smoked it all.

I would recommend this cigar to anyone because it was a very smooth cigar. "I" just didn't like the flavor. Everything else was perfect about it. It wasn't a rocket and you could easily tell by tasting that it was a premium stick. I just didn't like the taste. The maduros are much better. At least they are in the 64 line. I haven't had a 26 maddy. Someone can feel free to send me one. :D

Review Cigar #02 - DaveWF

Montesino No. 1 Natural 6.88 x 43 $2.60

Appearance: Good

Appearance Notes
This cigar was a little dry (totally my fault) so there was some mild unraveling. I "licked it down" and it stuck perfectly. Some light motteling in color, but generally a even light natural wrapper. Couple of minor imperfections in the wrapper - nothing too noticable unless you're really looking for it. Beautiful double-cap.

Construction: Outstanding

Construction Notes
Perfectly firm. Even size. Very nicely made.

Burn: Even
Problems: None Found
AshColor: Light Grey
AshStructure: Typical
Draw: Perfect
Aroma: Good
Smoked_To: I Burned my Fingers!
Strength: Medium
Recommended: Yes
Scale: Great Smoke
Class: Super Premium

TasteNotes
Started out very mild - quickly ramped up to a solid, comfortable medium strengh. 1/3 through getting a bit stronger - still. 1/2 through - gets some nice spicey overtones - overall very pleasant. Had a nice woody flavor, but that could easily be attributed to all the woodworking I was doing earlier and all the sawdust in the air and up my nose. About 3 inches left, started getting a little leathery - very similar to the 2 Punch Punch's I've had before. Overall - VERY enjoyable.

OverallNotes
I had just spent a long time outside working on a new closet organizer, and after working myself to exhaustion, decided it was time to stop and enjoy a good cigar, thanks to my buddy, SD. I started with a bad light, just my fault, but it immediately corrected it self and had an almost perfect burn the rest of the cigar. This was a GREAT cigar. I like lots of rich smoke, and this one had it. It was almost comparable to a Padron with its voluminous clouds of smoke. I don't think I've ever had one like this, so I have no idea what it may have been. If I was still buying cigars, my only hope would be that this was a cheap cigar, so I could buy lots more. If this was an affordable smoke, it would definately be my "go-to" cigar. I need to rate this between a Super Premium & a low-end ISOM, simply because I don't think I've ever had a real high-end ISOM. Overall a SOLID "A". Thanks SD for this great smoke!

The Manufacturer Said: Montesino is one of the first brands made by the Fuente family upon their move to the Dominican Republic. A well-constructed, traditional Dominican blend available in a wide range of sizes, in either a natural Connecticut Shade or maduro Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. A consistently smooth, pleasing smoke.

What SD Said: Great review Dave. You wish came true. The cigar is midly priced at 65.00 / 25 at JRs. Buy your Box Here.
