Best Movie Ever?

Wow didn't think I'd see Das Boot on here.

There is a movie which I think expresses the entire range of the human condition, from heartwrenching despair to boundless joy, and is the definition of drama, and the name of the movie is Old School.

:D

That and A Few Good Men are probably my two favorite movies.

I agree that it's hard to pin things down to one. I have a list for whenever this topic comes up in conversation:

1. The Wizard of Oz
2. Pulp Fiction
3. It's a Wonderful Life
4. Cool Hand Luke
5. Do the Right Thing

My top 5 would be:

1. Tombstone (absolutely the best western ever made)
2. The Hustler (talk about tragic)
3. Citizen Kane (Orson Welles was a genius)
4. The Godfather 1 (for obvious reasons)
5. Pet Cemetary 1 (Had to throw in a horror flick. This one got picked because that little boy is creepy and looks cool as hell in his suit  )

My friends call me Frank the Tank, so I love old school
"YOU'RE MY BOY BLUE!"

and a few good men, is an all time great movie.
"I run my unit how I run my unit. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4000 Cubans who are trained to kill me, so don't think for one second that you can come down here, flash a badge, and make me nervous."

I have never agreed with the accolades piled on this movie. It is a good movie, yes, but the best ever? Not even close. After recently re-watching Goodfellas and Casino, I don't even think it is the best mafia movie ever made.

Goodfellas was execllent. I've not seen Casino, but I heard it wasn't that good, so I'll have to check it out, but as for goodfellas, it's awesome!

besides any old WWII movie, I'd have to list Pulp Fiction in my top favs...

also, we watched the unedited, uncensored version of Team America, World Police and that's now in the top favs for me! I haven't laughed that hard in a very, very long time. Durka Durka!

Muhammad Jihad!

("I've never seen acting like that before in my life!")

Don't think anyone has mentioned this foreign flick: Life is Beautiful. Funny as hell yet so sad and heart-warming it will make you cry. If I had to pick ONE movie as my all-time favorite this would be it.

EDIT: Typo

Its so hard to name one best movie. It all depends on what mood I'm in. If I want a gritty movie, Pulp Fiction. A little romance, Casablanca. A comedy, anything by Mel Brooks. Just a good story, Shawshank Redemtion.

Braveheart
We Were Soldiers
FMJ
Rocky
The original Star Wars
The Godfather
So many more...

This Is Spinal Tap Comedy
Kelly's Heros ?
Behind Enemy Lines War
Basic Instinct Drama
Last Action Hero Action
Ol' Yeller family

While they may not be the best movie ever, and some would say some of these aren't even any good.

I think Payback with Mel Gibson is one of the best of all time, but I had already mentioned it in the other movie thread.

True Romance
Empire record comedy
Saving P R drama
braveheart
Mystery Alaska
The rundown I really do not like the rock but Hell Ernie Ray Jr does a great job in that movie.
Godfather all of them
Casino
And last SpongeBobSqurePants The movie :p

Ahh.. Godfather what a great movie. I had an Uncle who would say everything in life you can learn from that film.

Favorite Godfather series quote

"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!"

and

"Do you spend time with your family? Good. Because a man that doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

I posted in the other thread my movie and still think this movie is the best movie ever.

Full Metal Jacket. I'm not going to sit here and say something like "It's a Marine thing!".

Well, yes I am... :D

Anyways, thats my movie and I'm sticking to it.

That and Debbie does Dallas!

A lot of great movies were listed so far, but I am really suprised I haven't seen mention of "The Usual Suspects". Not necessarily the full gamut of human drama, but definitely one of my top ten.
