My local has the Abyss on the shelf right next to the FBS and KBS.
 
How does the Abyss compare to the DL?  I see they both have the Licorice/Molasses profile and I just couldn't finish the bottle of DL I tried.
 
I was actually at Deschutes 2 years ago and I saw The Abyss on sale as we were waiting for a table for dinner.  I thought "Oh I'll grab a couple bottles at the end of dinner."  They sold out about 10 minutes before I asked for them.  I didn't realize they had just released their sale that morning.

As per BBS, people line up outside the brewery before they open the day of it's release. But it seems they have tried to capitalize on it's popularity by charging much more per bottle this year, Tom will have to chime in concerning that. But I do remember he was not very happy when he heard how much it went up this year.
 
You used to buy it for about $13. This year it was all the way up to $18.00 or more.
 
Abyss is fairly easy to find here in Washington...  $18.00 sounds about right though.

What's the DL?
 
I've only had one or the other. Never side by side. I remember them both being very strong and full bodied, with a licorice profile. But, I could not say if they were very similar or not.

So those of you that like the DL and Abyss.....do you eat red or black licorice :)
 
I liked Abyss and I hate black licorice.  The last time I had DL I thought it was cloyingly sweet.  I didn't get that from Abyss last time I had it.
