is it just me? i do like the ashton line up, the vsg is a fav, and i really like the fuente opus's.
had my first ESG last night, paired with a nice glass of Glenfiddich Single Malt, the cigar was tasty, actually reminded me of an opus, just not as spicy. should i have expected more? maybe my expectations were a little too high for this smoke. had a few burn problems, required 3 touch-ups, the cigar was stored at 65%, 67degrees, for a month, so i know it wasn't wet.
 
IMO - these were rushed to meet their release date, not the best
constructed cigar I have seen. However, I think 6 months to a year
age at 65% and we may all change our opinions.

Agree, Thought it was fine, but I was thinking it would overtake the VSG as my favorite. It's probably my fault though, built it up a bit too much.

I still have one, I'll give it another go in a few months, I'm thinking it'll be much better.
 
i agree with all you guys, given some time, the cigar certainly has potential. i will also emplore my personal cigar rule...if it still sucks after trying 2 of the same vitola and brand, i will not smoke it again. i think wyatt and i are in the same boat, we built it up too much.
 
From what I've read, these aren't just a one time run, correct? After all five sizes are released they will be regular production? From some reviews, I'm hesitant to spend the loot on these now if they will always be around, even if it is only small production.

Where did you see that information? That's not my understanding. I'd be great if true though.

I think they are good cigars now; I haven't had a bad one myself personally yet. I think they have the potential to be truly great cigars, given the ingredients, and some time.

One other thing to keep in mind that since this is the largest planned ESG vitola, it is likely the mildest. I wonder how much of the mildness has to do with a sick period, though. It would seem odd, given how long these cigars were delayed. Time will tell.
 
There was a thread over at CF in which MIke P at Ashton was trying to answer this question. The way I read it was that each ESG size was going to be continued once it was released.

Production is 50K annually per size. 5 sizes planned (5.5 x 52 second size, all others unknown at this point). So first year, 50K, 2nd year 100K, 3rd year 150K and so on.

And not all accounts will receive ESGs.

And also from pamphlets they are including in Ashton cigar boxes: "In the second year a 5.25x52 will be added. And so it will continue for five years until 2010. From then on, all five sizes will be produced annually and made available to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Asthon."

Smokeing another one as we speak.....my 5th.I like them now,but,not the flavor,more the stregnth.Seems these will balance out nicely but loose stregnth as it gains flavor.In that respect,I wish it was stronger and hope to god it stays strong,but I doubt it.


I have not heard these will be around forever after all sizes are out either.
 
One of my local shops has had 3 boxes of these since the release. So, I think that more and more are now hitting the streets.

But I do agree with Moki, these are mighty fine cigars right now, but give them about 6 more months in the humi and they will develope into really great and beautiful cigars. I think though, that they do need to age. Ashton dropped the ball with marketing, did not let them age long enough and released them too early (even though it was ~4 months after their 20th Anniv).

Although the taste of the ammonia will slowly fade from my nasal cavity, they will be good...oh yes, they will be good!

Right... for 5 years. I haven't heard anything definitive beyond that, but I do hope your interpretation is right.
 
The Ashton pamphlet makes it seem like they will be produced after 5 years. I may end up being wrong on this interpretation. Maybe they're being vague about it on purpose.

I'm wondering which of the 5 sizes is going to be best...

I guess I'll try to find some and snatch em up. I hope I interpreted correctly, but now I'm not sure
 
Guys, There will be no more release of the ESG untill next year 2007 of the size that was just released. This is a preview of the size being produced for 2007. Next year will be the some for the next size. I am surprised with some of you not really enjoying this cigar. I have been very impressed with the strength and the flavor as well as several other fellow smokers who all have the some opinion. But the is why we are all different.
