I am admittedly a poo-pooer of Cuban cigars, commie sticks as I sometimes call them. I take that stance for several reasons, mostly the opposite reasons why i love NC's. However, some folks in this forum, and I wont name names as we don't talk about sources (right?), took it upon themselves to make me eat, or smoke, my words. So after celebrating the 4th of July (in style!), with a The American from J.C. Newman of Tampa Florida (Murica!), I felt it was time to go on a trip of sorts down the Cuban road. So I gathered them all up, and put them in a makeshift dry box and will start reviewing these guys. I would appreciate help along the way because I'm not used to all this fuss in cigar preparation, but from what I have tried to gather, i need to dry box a weeks worth of cigars to start right? If that's right, then I'm moving in the right direction. Next step, find the plugged cigar and try to smoke it while relishing the flavors of its sick period? Just kidding, i hope. Don't expect this to be without shit talking, remember, I have the honor of the Hulkster waving the Red White and Blue in front of the world to defend so don't assume this is without preconceived notions. Be that as it may, I'm going to do my best to be objective and forgiving. I know a lot of us are very fond of Cubans, so I will make sure to be respectful. Now lets have fun! Watch the cigar review section for updates.

01 Quintero
Notice the sign in the background, subliminal, right? So this guy is the first Cuban in my quest to see if Cubans are any good. Gifted by a great and generous BOTL. Please bare with me as I don’t often do reviews so my vocabulary is limited to “tastes good” or “doesn’t taste good”. It Is petite...

02 Quintero tubo
My second cigar in this series and again, it’s a Quintero, but this one is a tubo and what appears to be corona size. It has a tighter draw then yesterday’s Quintero, possibly due to it being in a closed tube- maybe I will uncap the other tubo that I have. It definitely tastes different, maybe...

03 Por Larranaga PL
Ive been anticipating this cigar as it seems to be universally loved by all Cuban smokers from beginners to aficionados. This is spicy, with the taste of talcum powder. The draw is pretty decent. It Stays in it’s lane. I don’t know the age but I’d like to see how it would change with age. The...

No fun preamble to share with you on this one. This guy starts off the bat with spice. It then gives way to some sort of flavor which I cannot describe. Like spice without the aggressive bit on your palette, maybe ground red pepper? I donna know, I’ve spent the bulk of the time smoking this...

Initial burst of spice. Tempers down to cream. It stayed that way till the end. Solid and consistent. Medium bodied and great construction with a touch of "plum" on the wrapper! I liked it. It was a good cigar. So I need to say that my stereotype of Cuban cigars being tightly rolled garbage...

06 Trinidad petit corona
This is another which I've been excited to try. I hear Trinidad's are fancy. I just finished several hours of serious yard work so i didn't quite feel refreshed enough to don a tailcoat even just a simple dinner suit. Alas, please forgive me for slobbishly wearing a simple polo and khakis for...

07 Quintero
So I finally circled back to the original Quintero. I’m interested to see how this will taste like given the last week of trying different small format Cuban cigars. I haven’t looked back at my notes when we read the review so in a sense I’m kind of doing this fresh, without prior influence. It...

08 Juan Lopez #2
This is the first large ring gauge of the group. It starts off mild maybe medium minus. It’s hard to discern the flavors but it’s got a touch of salt, and maybe green tea. I’m really surprised because I thought it would be stronger and bolder flavors. The tea flavor stayed consistent through...

09 Quai D'Orsay No. 54
This starts out as mild, and a tight draw. The best I can come up with is cream and vanilla but its so subtle and that makes it harder for me to find that talcum powder. You know, a cigar this big has got no business being this mild. The cigar opens up a bit more one third in, and the cream...

10 H. Upmann Sir Winston
This was another cigar which i was looking forward too. I has a loose draw by Cuban standards but how I prefer my cigars to be. The construction was good. It had medium strength. It starts off with spice like red pepper, cream and chocolate dust. At times the pepper kicks up and at times the...

11 Quintero Tubo - Round 2
This is the second time through with this cigar. Again, I didn't reread the prior review so I'm basically tasting this blind. It has a little bit of a tight draw, so I used my PerfecDraw to loosen it up. It seems to have worked. It Initially tastes of wood. Then cream. Then wood and cream...

12 Bolivar Coronas Gigantes (POS ENE 2007)
This is the final cigar in this review Group. Its the only one were I know the factory code and date. I hope that helps with the feedback from folks. The draw is perfect. Not tight or loose. Its exactly in my preference range. It started out medium, with wood and pepper. It shifts to like...

So this review series has come to an end. This was a very interesting experience. I would like to thank, for no particular reason, @bfreebern , @CBoukal and @Thoughts .
So to answer the question "Are Cuban Cigars Any Good?", I think that they are a different animal then non Cubans which I find interesting because they are all cigars made of tobacco, but Cubans seem to be a much narrower and unique cigar experience then Dominican, Nicaraguan or Honduran cigar experiences. Are the good? Yes, but I would not feel comfortable comparing Cubans to non Cubans in an Apples to Apples sense. I will leave it there. Thank you for following.
