Apartment Complex to Ban smoking

It sounds like it's time to buy a house.  My mortgage is less than that and I have almost 6 acres to boot.
It amazes me the difference in property value across the USA. If you don't mind me asking what's the square footage?

I also agree with LarryH.  Buy your own house.  We've got 4 acres with a mortgage not much more than your rent.  Plenty of smoking room and no neighbors close enough to aggravate. (not that I'd care ;) )

I have about 1900 square feet.  It was a fixer upper.  I actually had to pay to have carpet installed on the bare plywood floors upstairs before the appraiser would approve it.  I got a rider on the contract for repayment if the sale fell through.  Still it appraised for about $35K more than I paid.  That was almost a problem too.

Property values seem pretty inflated to me in some of the more populated parts of the country.  Construction costs will vary due to labor costs and material costs but it shouldn't be 2 or 3 times as much.  It's not to hard to find nice homes here for less than $100 a foot.

Sorry to hear this. I hope things work out, they always seem to find a way. Move to rural Ohio (If you can stand it) I have 3 1/2 acres with a new 4200 sq ft home and paying just a little north of your rent. I would definitely parrot what has been said before, buy if you can.

Wow Larry that's a great deal! Here in Derry your house and land would cost over $2500 a month...

I did get a really good deal.  You could spend that for an equivalent size property here but it would be high end.

Wish my rent was $900, lucky for me there is a cigar shop about three blocks where my apartment is, but at least at my complex no one has complained yet.

ahhhh, home ownership!  It is a great thing; in fact, I still own one!  HA!  I still pay on my house in my previous state!!!!!  It has been on the market for 8 months....sitting and waiting.  Once it sells, a new world will open up to me with better options, but until then, I am screwed.

But thanks for the advice all!

Yep, that is a problem. Is the house standing tall? Is it staged? Do you have the right price on it? Do you have the right realtor?

I sold my place last May. Because I had all of that stuff taken care of, I had three offers during the open house. It was the first time the realtor ever sold a home during the open house.

Regardless, good luck with selling the old place. I hope you find the perfect one in your new state!

Ben, that sucks donkey balls! I can't say if I would sell and move elsewhere, but I would smoke and see who pops their head outside and wait to see if they can actually do something concrete, like a fine. I know I like walking the dogs and smoking a cigar so that could be another option to consider, but if my feet are tired already I can see that being harder to do.
