Anything good from CAO?

The MX2 is one of my favorite maduros. I really like this cigar.
I reach for it when I want a smooth mild to med. smoke.
The Italia and Brazilia are good also. All though they are
not quite spicy enough to be on my go to list.

Where to start?

CAO Gold...I think the first line they came out with (either that or the original black blend). Mild to medium bodied. Not very good IMHO. Fairly nondescript.

CAO Black...old blend. Same as the gold, just a little more body. Have not had any of the recent reincarnation, so cannot comment. If it is the same blend, I probably won't be trying them.

CAO Anni Maduro...Really liked this cigar when it was originally released. Very good broadleaf wrapper. When it was originally released, it was made in Costa Rica by Tony Borhani. He decided not to continue making them for CAO and production moved to Perdomo. That is when I quit liking this cigar. I believe production has since moved to the CAO/Torano facility...quality might be back up.

CAO Anni Cameroon...I don't typically like cigars with Cameroon wrappers, so I don't really like this cigar. I think it is rather bland. Like the maduro, though, it was originally made by Borhani and then moved to Perdomo. I think it is now made at the CAO/Torano facility.

CAO Extreme...only one of the line made at Perdomo that I ever liked. When it was on, it was on. However, that was only about 25% of the time. Have had some great robustos, though. More full-bodied than the others, very leathery.

Brazilia...great cigar. I really like the Sambas. I do, however, really like the taste of Brazilian maduro wrappers. They just click with my taste buds.

MX2...couldn't make up its mind about what it wanted to be. Tasted kind of muddy to me. I've had one that was really good..the rest were just mediocre.

Italia...Love the caios. Bought a box immediately following the RTDA last year. Have smoked them fairly steadily since.

Odyssey...mediocre, over-priced cigar.

CAO 65th Anni...Same as the Odyssey

CAO Millennium...excellent cigar. Still have one in its original coffin.

That's my 0.02 on the CAO lines. :)

Not really anticipating the release of the CX2...just don't care for Cameroon wrappers that much. I'll give it a fair shake, but not expecting much.

I guess I will try a few others. I will difinitly smoke the maduro I have and go off the coments posted for others.

Now that was a very concise to the point post. Thanks for sharing.

cigardawg: Thanks for you review, great rundown.

The Brazilias seem to be getting a good review here so that's what I will try next. I will also give the Criollo another shot as I liked the flavor, it was just plugged.

Thank you all for your input.

I have to agree with most here... The Brazilia's are one my favorites.

I do not care for the CAO Black or the CAO Maduros, though.

Yeah, I, like most, have never really had a CAO I didn't like. Still haven't. The only ones I don't readily keep on hand are the CAO Blacks. Other than that, you'll always find at least some in my humidors. Love 'em.

Odyssey...mediocre, over-priced cigar.

CAO 65th Anni...Same as the Odyssey

CAO Millennium...excellent cigar. Still have one in its original coffin.

I enjoyed the odyssey for the most part, although, they aren't worth 10-12 dollars.

I've got a 65th waiting (and not tried it yet) and personally the cigar's aroma is completely different from the odyssey, so I'll have to give it a try somewhere soon. I'm also holding out on my CAO Millie, just because they are pretty darn hard to find now adays. Good reviews though cigardawg.

Personally, I think the crillos and blacks are the only great CAOs. I hate the brazillas and not a huge fan of the Cameroon.

Sorry, I didn't mean that the 65th tasted the same as the Odyssey, just that is was over-priced and mediocre IMHO. The 65th, according to the information that I just looked up, is a Nicarguan puro, so it should have a different profile than the Odyssey. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad cigar, just not my taste.

I forgot the Criollo. That cigar, also a Nic puro I think, has a good taste. I could not get past the fact that both of the ones that I smoked left me with cotton mouth. They need to tweak the blend a bit to correct that.

I see said the blind man. :whistling: I'll have to fire it up soon.

I had a Black a few weeks ago. I really liked it. The Brazilia line is the only CAO I'll spend money on.

Personally i enjoy the Blacks, Anni. Cameroons, and Anni Manduro's.(in that order)

I was in Orlando a couple of weeks ago and went into Corona Cigar Co. and found the Italia Piazza Natural 6 x 60 and torched it up right there and I have to tell you that was a mighty good smoke. So good, I bought a box and had them shipped home. Have smoked another out of the new box and same experience.

I've had really good luck with the camaroon Anni's and the Brazilia Anaconda. Both are great smokes.(quite different flavor profile though). The Extremes are good smokes as well. :D

My .02 cents! :p

So I smoked one of the CAO Blacks that Captain Leafheart gifted me. It was the robusto. I smoked it last night on the screened-in-porch at my new townhouse.

By all accounts it was a very well built cigar. The draw was clean and easy. No noticable seems or veins. The burn was perfect; requiring no corrections.

The smoking experience did not live up to the construction. The taste was straightword and never changed or developed. It was medium bodied and produced a fair amount of smoke.

Overall, it was a rather average cigar. It was by no means a bad smoke; but it was rather undistinguished.

I am a big CAO fan and I have been wanting to try a Black for quite awhile now. A big thanks to Guy for generously sending me the smokes!!!!!
