No not at all.
We are witnessing Probably the best Swimming Athelete to ever compete in an Olympics in Michael Phelps.
Also despite the horrible scoring from the Olympic judges in the Womens gymnastics The 2 US women still won Gold and Silver you can't cheat pure skill and power and grace!
I for one have been glued to the TV watching all the sports and rooting for the American contingency to do well and bring home a ton of medals.
I watched some boxing..some womens softball, swimming, gymnastics, badmitton (crazy), some table tennis (crazy,), volleyball, beach volleyball, even fencing where the US women swept the events!.
It has been one of the better Olympics so far. I cant wait to see the track and field!
Some of the comments in this thread make me wonder if they have any clue on how hard it is to train for events and to dedicate your entire life for 3 weeks of either GLORY AND FAME or FAILURE AND DISAPPOINTMENT!
I for one give all these atheletes my utmost respect. I can only imagine competing in the Olympics and representing your Country has to be one of the most amazing things an athelete can experience You are on the worlds stage!
I love Phelps and I really do understand the dedication and sacrifice it takes to be an Olympic athlete as much as any other Joe Schmo can understand. However, I don't need to see ALL of the preliminary heats and ALL of the semifinals. They haven't shown as much of any other sport.
Instead of the swimming prelims (which are honestly only a story if a favorite doesn't make it) they could show some of the other events that go on, even if it's taped. I'd rather watch badminton, judo, or just about anything. The swimmers don't even try their hardest in the prelims. I understand the strategy, but I don't care to watch it.
The finals are amazingly exciting, fascinating, and fun to watch. It's the "nonraces" in the prelims I could do without.
I'd just like to see some of the more "fringe" events. I know they're on other networks, but it would be fun to watch at least parts of them in prime time (even if they're taped) instead of having to search them out during the wee hours of the AM or when people are at work.
I had read the women's fencing swept the medals online, but you'd never know it from the coverage. Just think, the future badminton gold medalist may never be exposed to the game because he had to go to bed before 3 AM.
That's all I'm saying. I'm not putting down any of the athletes or other participants, I'd like to see more of them.
