I think it's funny when people like a band until their hard work and talent finally pays off and they become "popular."
To each his own.
Is it about the music- or is it more than that?
No, it really is about liking the music you like. I think people take the anti-bandwagon idea a little to far.....
Admittedly I also fall prey to this bias myself, but in general I still don't believe that radio stardom means that you represent the best in your genre. Sure Skrillex is talented, but imHo (with a capital H) Skrillex like David Guetta, is more pop-y, mainstream, marketable than he is talented. Again
not to say he's bad, but not nearly as good as say the godfather of dubstep, Skream, who radio stardom wise is nowhere to be found. Funny enough, I've found that Pandora is a good source for finding the roots of a genre, aside for some slight repetitiveness, they can pull up a reasonably good catalog for on demand.
Discussion aside, I look forward to checking out the links you all posted. Surprised by the number of responses myself, good topic OP.
MX - Your cousin sounds great, I went to UT myself, will definitely be listening into his stuff soon.
