Any Archers aboard? I need help with a decent starter Bow & Arrows

I've been wanting to get a decent Bow to learn, or relearn Archery. When I was a kid, I won several Archery meets. I had never been taught how to do any of it. Just hit close to what I was shooting at for some reason. I'm hoping there are some fairly inexpensive options available that represent good bang for the buck. Also, something that would be dimensionally stable, if that is even a current concern with Bows. (no warping during storage, etc.) Anything you can enlighten me with would be greatly appreciated.

I shoot a vintage Fred Bear Kodiak from the late 60's as well as a modern Bear Anarchy HC. :thumbs:
 
You looking to go Compound, Recurve, or Traditional?
 
I would suggest a compound with about 35-45# draw weight, unless your a hulk and then you could start with 60# draw weight. 
 
Your in NYC is see, there is a bow shop in Lancaster PA that is world class, they could set you right.. bit of a drive, but it's where I do all of my shopping. Or call and talk to the shop...

You really need to know your draw length though, so the arrows are cut correctly to our pull.  Head down to a shop, get fitted and get shooting... I loves it :laugh:

I've seen that fellow before. He's pretty remarkable. Just watched the movie "Northmen" (2014) and one of the characters uses a bow in that fashion, spare arrows in draw hand, flight arrow on same side of bow as draw hand. Not a bad flick if you like Cleavage....as in cleaving a foe in two.

Thanks. Good info. I want a recurve at first. Something simple and dependable. I am a pretty stout fellow but don't know if I want to take advantage of that. Have a hinky neck and don't know if it will screw with that. I.e., Strong as an ox with disks that are half gone.

I'd get around 30#  on a recurev, it'll be easy to pull and won't cause you any issues... still flings em good too...
 
Keep in mind 30# ramps up when you pull back farther on the recurve, so in essence it stacks...
