Another trip to NYC

BTW, could I ask a favor of one of the guys who will be there both days? Rob300C has a box I'm hoping to pick up. Would one of you guys be willing to pick it up on Monday and bring it along on Tuesday for me? Rob, do you think that would be ok? I just can't make Monday.

I'll likely be there right at 6 on Tuesday, as I'll be catching the 8:52 train back home on the Harlem Line.

Was hoping for 5, but I can wander around Barclay Rex near Grand Central for awhile, or go for a quick preherf smoke at Nat Sherman's. If anyone would be interested in meeting up at one of those places between 4:30 and 5, please let me know.

Out of curiousity, does Merchants have a "cutting fee" if you're not smoking their stuff?

Merchants doesn't have a cutting fee but rather a two drink minimum.

In addition to Barclay Rex there is another shop close by (to help pass some time until 6):

JR cigar
562 5 ave. (I think around 46 St.)

Cigar Inn
1314 1st Ave At 68 St

I have not been to either of the two, so maybe someone else can comment on these

Not a problem Dave. Last time I was there, I had a coffee and a Diet Coke.

Hey Tigger...

FYI... JR cigars is only a handful of blocks north of Nat Sherman. Nat's has a smoking lounge upstairs, but everytime I've gone there for a smoke it's been empty. It's a cool lounge in an old-school sort of way, but not too thrilling. JR Cigars store is an interesting place to go check out, but not a great choice to sit and smoke. Actually I don't recall ever seeing anyone sitting and smoking anywhere in that store...maybe because I don't remember ever seeing a place to sit and smoke. :whistling:

Cigar Inn is probably your best bet before Merchants opens, but I don't believe they'll let you smoke your own...you'll probably have to buy a stick to smoke it there.

And the times I've gone to Merchants (a couple times now) I just drink diet cokes and coffees and that hasn't been an issue.

I should be around a little early myself so if anyone wants to meet up before Merchants opens, I'm game! :cool:

Anyone interested in a 5ish, quickish presmoke at Cigar Inn? Should be getting to Grand Central around 4:30, and I think I can make it up and over in 1/2 an hour...

Well guys... I've got bad news (for me). I've been battling a flu all week hoping to get better so I could make my flight to NYC this morning. Last night I ended up in the ER in Santa Monica and the flu unfortunately has gotten worse. I didn't make my flight this morning and it's not likely that I'm going to fly out tomorrow either. I'm excited to see so many of yous guys involved in this mini-HERF and I'm sure you'll do just fine without me there, but spark one for me please.

I'm going to be in NYC early in the afternoon so I'm going to try to find CigarInn for the 5:00 presmoke smoke.

On a related note, now that Chris can't make it, is anyone planning to be at Merchants around opening time to snag some real estate?

I'll pass by the cigar inn around 5, them go to merchants around 10 to 6 and grab some spots. I'm the asian kid with long hair and glasses.

edited - just wanted to say I passed by the velvet cigar lounge earlier, went inside and smoked some of their house brand stuff. pretty good cigars. Good expresso too, albiet kinda a small place. The bartender/waitress was very nice.

Chris, hope you get better soon and visit us in the near future.

As for me I will be there only Tuesday, can't make the Monday night. But will see everyone Tuesday around 6 :thumbs:
