Was up at my usual 0430 for pt today. In going through some of my favorites on my iPod, thought I'd share some of them by way of a contest.
The rules are as follows:
1. This time, contest only open to those members who have been here 1.5 years or more;
2. Answers must consist of song title and artist/band - I will post a portion/quote of the song;
3. The first member to fully and correctly post the answer wins;
4. Winnings/Prize will be a 5'er of some of my favorite sticks (no dog rockets will be included); and,
5. Special bonus to the member who also correctly identifies the "genre" or "category" file/folder that I have labeled these albums/songs (i.e., "rock," "pop," "metal," "mix," "pt," etc., etc., etc.). Given those examples just listed, as a hint, it's none of those.

Here we go. Again, post the song title and band/artist that the quote belongs to. Gonna make it a bit longer than my movie quote contest...just 'cuz I'm bored:
1. "When you're lying in bed at night do you think about a normal life? Do you think about a normal life like me? Take a look at my scars tonight, they remind me of them awful times. They remind me of the awful times we've seen. We ran a long way from home, I see it plain and clear - There aint nobody real, looks like I'm on my own again..."
2. "When we were at school i thought he had it sussed, fighting the law with the rest of us smoking, drinking, acting cool, 'til they started treating him like a fool. Then he stayed on his own for most of the time dreaming dreams of a life of crime, in and out of trouble, he cheated and lied but who'd have thought he'd join the other side..."
3. "Now I love the sea and she wants me back. So I leave this ol' harbor, with the wind of Bridgette's Crack. Goodbye mother Theresa, I hope the kids settle down. I must head for the Chinas, pray to God I don't drown..."
4. "This is an ode to a man who spent his whole life in a fight. Never getting counted out at all or ducking from our sight. Our eulogy for him is clear, we know just what to say, Kenny Walls he was a fighter right up to his passing day..."
5. "Bury me at sea, where no murdered ghost can haunt me. If I rock upon the waves, then no corpse can lie upon me..."
6. "But the duty I serve can't begin to compare, to my ancestors battles and wars through the years. Though the loneliness strikes like an enemy shell, I pray for my home but still sit here in hell..."
7. "Born on the southside, you live alone four walls and a roof but's always cold. Look out the window and there is nothing to see but a riot torn city and the death of your country. And your chilled to the bone with no possessions to call your own, yet you control your rage and you resist the crime..."
8. "You're the middle class kiddies from public schools, who write the slogans on the toilet walls.
Like Tony Benn's clones in plastic masks, you wave a hammer and sickle, never Union Jacks. Got lots of mouth when your in a crowd, but when your alone you don't speak loud..."
9. "All this weight that's put on my back, what's it gonna take to make it crack? It takes all I've got just to get by, can't get ahead no matter what I try. Think everything I do is wrong, and that I have waited for too long to do what's right and be a man - you could never understand..."
10. "The air is fill with a mighty roar, they stand there as always as before. The warrior's strong, the warrior's proud. The warrior stands at the edge of the crowd. The warrior's brave, the warrior's cool
even when he's got his back against the wall..."
11. "Old Red's in town, and sitting late at night he doesn't make a sound, just adding to the winkles on his deathly frown...They're only red from all the tears that I should've shed, they're only red from all the women that I could've wed. So when you look into these eyes I hope you realise, they could never be blue..."
12. "A man can never dream these kind of things, especially when she came and spread her wings.
Whispered in my ear the things I'd like, then she flew away into the night. Gonna write a song so she can see, give her all the love she gives to me. Talk of better days that have yet to come, never felt this love from anyone..."
13. "First time i saw you standing in the street, you were so cool you could have put out Vietnam..."
14. "And we told the truth in whiskey ‘til we made the rafters ring, We’d laugh and chaff, we had a half when the pints had made us sing, And when the night was over we’d stagger home to bed,
We’d wake up in the morning and we’d wonder what we said. We said love lasts forever, I suppose that could be true, When I looked into the embers, I thought that I saw you; But an ember’s only ashes at the dawning of the day, When the mists upon the meadows swiftly rise and drift away.
There’s soldiermen and sailors and there’s men of high degree, There’s tinkermen and tailors, and then there’s always me, And if you looked upon me, would it seem so very mad, that I dreamt of you that evening, and the passion that we had. And now it all is over and now you’re far away,
And if I heard your voice now I don’t know what I would say, The ship has long since loaded
and it’s sailed from the quay, But I’ll hold you in my arms, love, in the dream of yesterday..."
15. "One morning when this life is over I will fly away, No more shackles on my feet and no more tears I will display. I won't need a sense of accomplishment no nothing I ever got and if I can hold it out I'm sure I can forgo the lot. I'm closing doors and torturing those nearest me like a moth unto a flame, I don't know how this will end or how to deal with this pain. I need to find some sense of direction here past anything I've tried, and by God of all this bullshit does it never not subside."
16. "Platinum rogues in stolen clothes teaching others how to pose. All they're doing is wearin' out their brogues. A Poor small guy from the west stripped down to his vest, Doggie Dordon in his Sunday best. The nightlife the music and the bars. The hookers the dealers in their cars.
All lying in the gutter looking at the stars..."
17. "Always gettin' in a trouble and leaving little girls that hate to see me go. They tried to hang me in Oakland and they did in Francisco. But I wouldn't choke, I broke their rope and they had to let me go..."
18. " I am a patient boy, I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait. My time is water down a drain.
Everybody's moving, Everybody's moving, Everything is moving, Moving, moving, moving..."
19. "...there's no turning back, Punish your lover, and then just turn your back. Punish your future, to spite your past. Love turns to hate, with every spell you cast, you keep waiting for the love that you want to feel. But you'd never believe it when the tell you that love is real, You keep wishing..."
20. "I want to be stereotyped, I want to be classified. I want to be stereotyped, I want to be classified. I want to be a clone..."
21. "Here he comes, down your street, Sawed-off shotgun in his seat. Better look around
cause here comes..."
22. "The crowded future stings my eyes, I still find time to exercise in uniform with two white stripes. Unlock my section of the sand, it's fenced off to the water's edge i clamp a gasmask on my head...on my beach at night bathe in my moonlight. Another tanker's hit the rocks, abandoned to spill out its guts, the sand is laced with sticky glops o' shimmering moonlight sheen upon the waves and water clogged with oil, white gases steam up from the soil...i squash dead fish between my toes, try not to step on any bones, i turn around and i go home, i slip back through my basement door switch off all that i own below, dive in my scalding wooden tub...my own beach at night electric moonlight..."
23. "...He's got static of the brain, outta control. Chippin' every day chipin' deeper and deeper, The girl she looks like a choo choo train. I don't know what you're trying to do, John, Looks to me like you got no brain, cuz we used to look up to you..."
24. "Sometimes I think of old friends, But they all seem the same, Then I see them, and they can't remember my name. I guess I'm just like them, I guess I'm just a bore, I could hate them, but I've never done that before. I've got lots of good friends, I don't need any more. And sometimes when you lie to me, Sometimes I'll lie to you. And there isn't a thing you could possibly do, All these half destroyed lives aren't as bad as they seem, and then I see blood and I hear people scream, Then I wake up and it's just another bad dream..."
25. "Telling stories, telling lies, Causing close friends to divide. A kind word for every face, then puts your words in another place. Twists the tale so she prevails, she's got ways that never fail..."
Have fun.
