Anejo 2007

Remember to keep an eye out for the mold. I had one that sat for less than a month... It developed mold on the wrapper and foot :(

Interesting that you brought this up. The couple that did this in my humi were both from the same source (albeit different times) so i assumed it was the humidity/temp at the place i got them. A great smoke nevertheless.

Anyone else notice a higher inclination toward molding with this particular vitola?

All of last years Anejo's were mold prone. Many people reportedly found mold when the cigars were in the shop, and some didn't notice until they got home. I haven't heard of anyone complain about mold with this years batch YET.

I did notice that this years box didn't come with the humidification gel/pack that last years box came with.

After reading this topic I HAD to burn one last night. I sat outside by my portable propane heater in windy 38 degree weather and enjoyed every minute. Damn I love Anejo's.

Sadly, let me be the first to report mold on a shark. I had a buddy pick me some up and mail them to me. Of the 3 only the Shark had mold. The wrapper has a little on it, the foot has a little more where the wrapper meets the binder. The cigar feels wet so maybe this is a b+m problem. Still smokable at this point, but, it wont be getting much rest.

I am wondering about this Moldy Shark issue....

Did the people with moldy sharks leave the cello on the sticks?

I'm thinking that it might be best to remove the cello from the anejos before putting them down to rest long term.

Thoughts on this, please..........

I'm pretty new to Anejo's.. . . .my wife bought me a box of 5's for Christmas in 2005. Absolutely fabulous cigars. So this year, since I'm down to 5 of the 55's, I decided to pick up a few more. Those 55's are tough to find. However I was fortunate to find a shop nearby that had all the other sizes. Picked up two of each. Then I started reading about all the mold issues. . .especially with the sharks. :(

Tonight I pulled the cello off the sharks and crap. . . one had a little mold on the foot. Oh well, might as well smoke it and see what it was like.

Well, after torching the foot thoroughly, I lit it up, exhaled thru it a few times (didn't want to inhale mold ashes) and started smoking. After the first inch it started tasting really good. . .however in the back of my mind I'm thinking "what if the mold is present thru-out the cigar?" So, after smoking about half, I decide to cut it open and see if there is any mold.

Good news. . . no mold visible. Bad news. . . I just wasted half of a great tasting Shark! :0

So my question is. . . anybody else find mold thru the cigar? Or can you just cut off the foot and smoke away?

depends on the amount of visible mold.

If the mold is able to be brushed off by hand, do so and smoke away, if it's just enough to not be brushed off, clip foot and smoke away. If it looks like the Andromeda strain has taken over your shark, do a picture rich disection for us as well as CC'ing it to Fuente.
