I once smoked a Brazilia that had dozens of small, perfectly circular balls in its ash. That told me the stick was full of beetle eggs. Fricken creeps me out to this day.

I've had sticks that looked similar to the photo in your article and with me being the not so informed partaker of the leaf, always assumed it was a botanical characteristic of the wrapper. I honestly never once thought I was smoking beetle eggs (thank goodness).
