All Star Contest

All-star game meaning home field advantage is stupid. Every year, several of the players that are voted by the fans shouldn't even be there and/or shouldn't be starting. I think fans are still voting for Cal Ripken to play. Michael Young can get 200 hits every year for the last 5 years, have an excellent fielding percentage, former batting champion, former all-star mvp....and he'll never start over Derek "I won't dive up the middle anymore" Jeter. Fans will elect jeter in 4 years after he's dead.

Early in the game, guys don't slide and don't run 100%. The game doesn't get interesting until the bench players come in. Add the fact the managers get grief if the don't play everyone, and if they do, they risk running out of players.

If its supposed to be serious and for home field advantage...take the votes away from the fans. Move the game to Wednesday and everyone gets Mon-thur off, No games until friday nite. Expand the roster with alternates for extra inning affairs only.

Sort of along these lines, I thought it was incredibly rude for Joe Buck to have referred to several lesser known players as 'the best _________ you've never heard of' at a few different times throughout the broadcast. While not every player will get a gaudy Gatorade endorsement and become a familiar face to housewives in Dubuque, it's still pretty insulting to basically rip on some of these guys who are undoubtedly very happy to be a part of the All Star game.

It went to today.
