Very first post. Long time avid cigar smoker. These pictures you see of a humidor. My father purchased in the 1960’s in an antique store in greater Los Angeles for 60 dollars for twin humidors. I tried Sotheby’s and I tried The antique Humidor Shop. The humidors are possibly form the 1930’s and from Cuba made of mahogany.

J.F. Bailey (antique Humidor shop) who I do not know but stated via email that in 30 years of Humidor sales and restoration he has never seen anything like it.

They are my fathers Humidors and he is the one who introduced me to cigar smoking. I would love and details or even theories. I’m wondering if this was a commercial sale where these were in a fine cigar store or wealthy smoker. They say in the door H Upman Dunhill double Claro. Sounds like a clue. Was this a one of a kind rare cigar or type of cigar. The fact that there are two humidors sounds more on the commercial end. Hmmmmm.

thank you all ahead of time.

Murph.

Murph, hell of a humi, would like to see the inside. Before you do that, please take a moment and sign in under the New Members Forum and let us get to know you better. CP is a great place to hang out, great brothers and information to be had. You would be more than welcome And we would love to hear about your smoking experiences.

I am no furniture expert by any means, but from the couple of pics I see it looks like a round pedestal storage cabinet from the mid-century with a cigar box lid glued to the inside of the door. I have seen many MCM pieces similar to this, without the cigar reference of course, most of the time they were used for mini-bars for liquor. Cool piece though... Try googling "Round Liquor Cabinet" or "Pedestal Cabinet"

Let's give 'em a friendly spin.

I also think it's a box lid inlaid or a cedar box divider glued on - you can see traces of stain on the edges of the lighter wood. I'd almost go with divider since the lettering is just inked on, their box lids were a little fancier I think, like this one that's inked and embossed.

Also, dividers typically have one corner clipped like the ones on your piece, doing all 4 would keep the symmetry. Dunhill had a distinctive trademark way of displaying their name, with enlongated D, H, and LL. If this was a Dunhill licensed piece, I bet you'd see that.

And I'm no expert on furniture or H.Upmann Cubans, just my guess from digging around a bit.

Edit: One more of a Dunhill box divider

Hello!
Can you post a few photos of the inside? Also, measurements of the height and width for reference? I know someone in the UK who might be able to help.

Double Claro is another term for a candela cigar.

Sorry for the almost 4 year reply. Hope are well. I like the idea that this not being a licensed product. The work seems make shift. Not bad quality not an h Upmann product ether. I still have the humidor.have not had a good smoke I. Years. Need one.

Aloha

Ken

Waiting four years to reply see a bit long for an anyone who smokes cigars and would store them. My impression is you are hoping to find a rare antique, not enjoy the antique and use it for cigars. We are a wonderful community of brothers with deep ( and I do me deep ) knowledge of both cigars and proper storage methods along with helpful hints on how to improve the humi etc. if you were into cigars you might give us proper respect. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Best of luck, and we will be here in four years if you choose to reply to this.

Pugman 1943 what would be the sin in wanting to find value in an antique? Especially after me not sending more pictures and doing so later in the process. For me sending more pictures was out of respect for the group and curiosity of what the humidors origins might be. Having the humidor 4 years later now that I own the humidor shows that the humidor has more sentimental value then dollar value.

My love of cigars comes from my father who passed away on the 24th of December last year. The Dementia he had was life stealer and loosing mom in the process. I’m not here for sympathy. But I am curious. I took the pictures at 4:30 AM and really looked at the humidor with keen eyes. Wanting to know the story. Wishing Dad could tell more if anything else to be added.

Brother it’s been a long time for a smoke for me and drink. I divorced not after Moms passing in 2021. I have 3 kids at home and pulling it all together working night shift is not. Breeze. I simply just reaching out to my cigar brothers going to rekindle a conversation and get back into smoking cigars in occasion.

Respectfully.

Well welcome back... Do us a favor and go do a proper introduction in the correct forum and we will all welcome you. Stick around, a lot of great people here, Pug being one of them....

Well brothers ls im Ken Murphy. I live in Rocklin California and I’m age 53. Work for US Customs and have three great kids. One heading to trade school (daughter) and a son in college and one in 6th grade. I currently dating a wonderful lady in Dixon Ca.

Worked in a Tinder Box store in Reno NV back in the late 90’s. I’ve had moments of being an avid smoker itet my smoking has tapered of to a Great extent. My humidor is dry that should tell you everything.

Would love to know what’s changed in cigar world. What’s good? I like a thicker cigar. Robusto or longer thicker than an average Churchill. I like a nice port wine with a cigar but a beer or even a coke works good for me. I liked Padron but they were too thin for me. Huh dad loved Robusto punch I believe the 100’s. If your in Roseville I might be int Perfeco Lounge. Not a regular yet but I’m overdue.

Aloha to all.

Ken
