Can pipe tobaccos compete with a decent cigar?

Cost is a big factor, but you also have to take into account how addictive buying pipes can be. :)  Personally, I tend to keep my pipe purchases under $70.   And, yes, echoing nearly everyone else, the two experiences are far different. I wish I had more time to smoke my pipe.  :(

Long time cigar smoker getting into pipes

Looks like some good choices. Personally, I tend to buy pipes in the $60-$75 range, and have found some nicely constructed Tsuges that smoke really well.

    suggested aging time?

I don't smoke that much anymore, but I do think 5-6 years is a good amount of time for ageing.    I'm glad PU's attitude changed, but I really don't know why so many folks are upset about grammar on an internet forum. Think about the modes of communication presented here from emoticons to...

Can this be converted to a Humidor?

No real way to seal it, but really cool looking none the less.

For You Younger Guys in Favor of Lifting the Embargo....

I don't think any one realistically thinks that Castro, or his regime, were "good," but let's not take a ridiculously complex and intricate mess that is the US embargo of Cuba and boil it down to Cold War rhetoric. I'm sure that the Cuban Missile crisis was very frightening to live through, but...

    Leaving for week....and a question..

x2 on the Zippo Otter box. Don't know if they are sold anymore, but I think I paid $8 for one back in 2007. Never had an issue flying with it.

Take on cubans since 1995 and changes since 2003

I just have a few general observations from my experience with Cuban cigars:   1). Always put the unlit end of the cigar in your mouth.   2). Make certain you always wear pants when you smoke.

I'm so saddened by this. My thoughts and best wishes are with his family.

Best way to store cigars for aging

It depends. I tend to age my boxes (and by age, I mean 5+ years) in the 60-65% range at no higher then 70 degrees. It's a slower process, but one that works well for preserving flavor.   You have to understand that it's an extremely YMMV question. Some swear by 70%, but I live in a very wet...

Anybody using recent model compressor wineador successfully no issues?

I ran a compressor type fridge with a outside temp control the entire time I was in Texas. http://www.cigarpass.com/forumsipb/topic/46665-humidor-in-a-refrigerator/?p=686788   No need to use the setup once we moved and I placed my collection in a temp controlled room. Now my fridge is just a...

    The Walking Dead on AMC

I don't know about the series anymore. I've read the comic, and things are so bizarrely flipped. Tyreese is supposed to be Rick's best friend. Maybe they'll get to that in the next season.  Though in the comic it was Tyreese who lost his head, not Herschel. Andrea is still alive in the comic...

I think I paid $90 or $100 for my copy years ago. I love it as a reference guide.    I'll defend book culture til the day I die. But am I the only one who sees the absurdity in the cost of producing another book at this level of expense when you could develop a website to host and update the...

    Dark and oily cigar recommendation?

I've always associated oily with fresh-rolled, young smokes. Something I've noted in nearly all the oily sticks I recall smoking is a bit of wildness, not a bad wildness, but certainly not mature.    But I'm no expert. Some people say cucumbers taste better pickled.  :D
