I'm looking for a nice dark rum. Any suggestions? I guess what I'm looking for is a "Guinness" kind of rum. What I mean by that is a rum that will stick to your ribs. I was going to pick up some Cruzan Blackstrap since it was on sale at the local grocery store, however, it looked about as dark and watery as Captain Morgan dark.

One Rum that I will tell you to stay away from is The Kraken. Beautiful Bottle, but a mean rum. The best of the best is Groslings. Search it out here I am sure Ray reviewed it. Be prepared to pay is the bad side (60ish). Cheers to you sir

Try Ron Zacapa 23 Year Old!

My favorite, with plenty of buttery caramel, and molasses satisfy that craving you have. A perfect balance without being too sweet.

Next on down the line I'd recommend the Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva. Some of the same flavors, but not quite as full & buttery IMHO.

Thanks guys...

Ron Zacapa and Ron Matusalem are on their way

Gosling's Family Reserve and Black Seal are on the list.

Anyone use Myers for rum and coke?

I'm really in to higher end brandies including cognacs, and whiskey/whisky, but I've started exploring the world of rum. If I keep this up, I think perhaps my wife might kick my rear. Probably hurt too. ???

Oh I am sorry I thought you wanted "Black" Rums. My Bad. John named the best rum out there along with Groslings. There is also Zaya and I really like a very nice inexpensive rum called Pyrat.

I recently picked up a bottle of Ron Matusalem and it is prety good stuff and won't break the bank. I am sure you will enjoy it. As others have mentioned you can't do much better than the Zacapa 23 and the Zaya isn't far off but, to each their own.

Please let us know your thoughts once you get into those bad boys. Enjoy!!!

The Kraken is good, but personally I think it has too much vanilla. Gosling is probably the best. I prefer the Gosling 151.

Definitely interested in the dark "black" rums, but I'm open to other ideas.

Yes, I use Myers. Specifically it goes great in an "Uncle Pete" cocktail I make. Which is basically rum, oj, splash of apple juice and wedge of lime. Damn, they're good. Could go for one right now.

I also have tried Appleton Estates but prefer the Myers rum for Uncle Petes.

I'll have to try Ron Zacapa 23. Sounds great!

Bill

I have been sample some different rums of late and Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 year old Rum has to be one of the better that I have had, also Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial is pretty good, having some right now. I also like Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum
