So here's the low down. Anyone who orders a box of their custom blend form the trip is eligible to play. This is how it will work.
1) We will nominate a judge--- Greg (KingAntz) has been voted in with Isy's proxy majority.
2) When our orders come in, Isy will remove one stick from each contestant's box and re-label it with a number instead of a name.
3) All those sticks will be sent to the judge.
4) The judge will smoke each stick and post their review.
5) After the last stick, the judge will pick a winner based on a number of criteria, which we as a group will formulate.
6) The losers then all owe the winner a monetary amount equal to "Box Price/('Number of Contestants"-1)"... in essence giving the winner a free box of their custom blend.

Current List of Contestants:

Looks good. I nominate Greg (Kingantz) as Official Judge.

Let's hear from Bimmer635csi and have him ask Carrie. And then we're missing theroberthogan and flushnutz.

As an innocent bystander I would also say that Greg should be the judge.

It would be an honor to serve as judge for the contest! Let the games....BEGIN!! :D

I do believe this is true, because between Isy and the like 20 votes he most assuredly has proxy for... it appears Greg will judge!
Chris
PS: It just dawned on me that most likely he is the true winner of this contest lol.

My only issue with that would be the "this is the one that appeals to me PERSONALLY most." It then become very subjective. There may be one that's smoother, or better blended, or more complex... but if he LOVES spice, the one with more spice will win, even if it's not the better blend, or if he loves sweet tobacco taste, etc.
Ideas Greg?

The thing is the HE alone is the judge. Obviously, taste is subjective. We enlisted him as a judge, and not the other way around. He will determine which one HE likes the best. When someone asks me about Opus, I think it's a well made, quality cigar, although I'm not too much a fan of them.

This is an interesting situation as I feel Chris has a very valid point. I'm not sure how each of the participants did their own personal blend, however I would imagine (or hope anyway) it was done based on what they like in a cigar. One may have blended a spicy strong smoke due to them liking that profile, whereas another may have blended much milder/sweeter.

I think part of being a judge in something like this is to be very subjective, not giving favor to what my typical profile is, but go by a certain number of criteria. It would, IMO, be better for the group to decide on what criteria to judge so that all will be in agreement. Not to mention, I'm not sure what criteria should be used. Would I include anything other than the taste? No one really had a "hand" in the rolling, so should this be part of the judging?

Thoughts?

I think the look and feel on the cigars will all be the same. The roll will be the same, as well. Obviously, it will be according to YOUR tastes, Greg. I personally don't find anything wrong with that. Otherwise, we would have to take a panel of judges, and average the overall scores, which is something I really don't want to do. But I'm open to suggestions. What is everyone else's input on this?
