I recently picked this smoke up in Gonz’s “CP’s Chef Pass” that Brandon (Bfreebern) put and decided to give it a go this evening. After conversing with Brandon, it seems this particular cigar is possibly an ’07 vintage. I’ve smoked a number of Trinidad vitolas, however this is the first Fundadore. The cigar is perfectly rolled with a smooth, golden brown wrapper, noticeable oils, and minimal veins. There’s a very good weight in the hand, very little give when squeezed, and with the pigtail cap punched I find the draw a bit on the tight side. Hopefully it’ll open up once it’s warmed and loosened up some.
I put fire to the small foot and the cigar was burning perfectly in no time. First draw was exquisite with a perfect white pepper spice on the back of the throat and insanely rich flavors of roasted nut, vanilla and sweet, dark caramel. Most Trinidad’s I’ve smoked have had a very light, floral quality, however this one was nowhere near light as the smoke was a good medium in body. I could faintly detect the floral notes, yet the flavors just seemed heavier and darker. I swear this thing tasted more like a Cohiba lancero than a Trinidad.
The burn was incredibly sharp with a strong, medium to light gray ash forming. I find the draw to still be slightly on the tight side, but it’s working really well with the body of the smoke. Taking a slow, long draw brings more than enough incredibly rich, sweet smoke through. Flavors are simply fantastic and quite complex with roasted nuts, vanilla, caramel, wood, and earth. Simply wow!
This cigar performed perfectly from first light to nubby little end. The smoke, a good medium in body, was so very smooth and creamy over the tongue, and the finish left on the palate after exhaling was downright delicious, long and lasting. This was one of, if not the best Trinidad I’ve smoked to date. A perfectl burn throughout, spot on draw, incredibly rich and complex flavors with a finish that was just mmm…mmmm…mmmm! Fanfreakintastic cigar!!
