Well since I poo pooed all over the shoe thread!

I thought we could discuss something a little more in keeping with subjects that relate to cigars. I know you are saying to yourself what does music and satellite radio have to do with cigars? Well music, fine beverages and cigars go hand in hand.

Just ask the bombing Marines, who take songs and mark their victims. So with that said what say you about this merger and their new line ups?

Monolopies are a great way to stiff the public by not giving them any other choices besides your service, and they can jack up the price all they want, and there's nothing you or anyone else can do about it ... pffff

I was driving to my son's school yesterday when I realized that Keith Roth from Sirius was talking on the radio. After a double take, I checked the channel name on the radio and found that it had changed from XM's Boneyard to Sirius's Hair Nation. Needless to say, I've been checking out XM's website to find all of the new stations.

I have always likes the music on Sirius better than XM, so I am glad for this change.

As a Sirius subscriber for about 4 years, I find that alot of my favorite stations have been eliminated or replaced by a lesser quality than what I'm used to. For example, there used to be a channel called Back Spin, which played old, classic hip hop music. Now the channel doesn't exist. Rumbon, which was geared for the Latino subscribers used to play salsa, merengue, and bachata music and on Saturday afternoons it played old Fania records, which is classic salsa. Now it got replaced by Caliente, playing spanish songs, no matter what the genre.

It's a real mess right now. I hope they make up their minds real fast. Because of Sirius, I no longer play CDs in my car. I have a feeling I might be burning some CDs in a couple of days and canceling my subscription.

That is still the case on Caliente as they list that show on there.

I just see the obvious change with some thought, but like Nicklor says the change that counts the most will be increased prices down the line.

I'm no "Law talking guy" like Lionel Hutz but I can't figure out how this wasn't classified as a monopoly. I don't subscribe to either service but the ruling was a head-scratcher to me.

I have 2 sirius subscriptions, 1 for my car and 1 for my stilleto. I don't really listen to the music as I got it for Howard Stern. Used to listen to him all the time on regualr radio and now on sirius its better than ever.

Its an outrage.
No notice to the public. Unless you were following it on the forums. About the challel change up.
I received an email Yesterday about 10AM. WTF!

XM was the true pioneer of SATRAD.
Extensive playlists, extensive sub genre channels which did not cater to the mainstream.
Classic station which catered to the mainstream

ClearChannel and Siruis will be the downfall of SATRAD. I had high hopes for the merger hoping XM would be able to keep their programming while improving in other departments (i.e. NFL , NASCAR, AND TALK).

Unfortunately XM dropped the ball. They hacked many of their SUB GENRE stations and replaced them with mainstream music channels.
A majority of SATRAD ppl flocked to XM because they were tired of the same old garbage FM radio gave them. XM gave the customers what they wanted. More choice..more music..less commercials.

Just a small list of stations that made xm XM!

FUNGUS- PUNK ROCK MUSIC
BEYOND JAZZ- ALL SORTS OF EXCELLENT SHOWS AND exlectic non main stream JAZZ
FRED- Classic Alternative music
Caliente - Salsa/menergue/bachata
Fuego- Regeeaton
Viva- Spanish Rock
Chrome- Dicso /Freestyle/Dance music from the 70/80
The System- Dance music with extensive playlists
Rhyme- Classic HipHop/RAP
Luna- Latin Jazz
Fine Tuning
X-country

The list goes on.
I have been reading on may XM forums of ppl canceling their subscriptions. Hopefully XMSiruis sees the error of their ways and goes back to what made XM popular. If we wanted cookie cutter music I would have stuck to FM.

I am giving them until End of Jan too see if they FIX anything. If not looks like I will buying one of thos ITOUCHES and loading it with all my favorites.

The merger talks started in the winter of 2005. But after years of FCC legislation and court proceedings, it wasn't until this week that people actually noticed. And that's because they messed with the stations. It's just messed up how they did it.

Now I know what Willie Randolph felt like.

I don't like it. I've been a Sirius subscriber for 5 years. And just recently I have let my subscription expire, and not sure if I'll be going back. This is for a few reasons.

First - when it came time to renew, I was not given the option to renew for any less than a year. I know they offer quarterly plans, but for whatever reason, they weren't an option for me.

Second - I still have the same radio I have when I first subscribed, the "Plug and Play 2." Yes, before they had all these fancy names like Stiletto and StarScream or whatever. And never once throughout the renewal process, had I been offered any sort of deal on a radio upgrade. A few months back, Sirius added channels to their lineup. My radio was too old to get them. So now, with my subscription up for renewal, I wold have to get a new radio to be able to get them all. And then in a year when the merger is completed, another round of hardware upgrades need to be done. Why not make it like cell phones? If you're a customer for x amount of time, you get $Y off an upgrade? No, instead I get the pleasure of either keeping what I have and not getting everything I pay for, or upgrading twice in a year to get it all.

Third - No one seems to be able to give me answers as to who what when where and why this is happening. So, until someone there knows what's going on, I can do better things with my money.

I remember the good ol' days....ahhhh, summer 2005...blasting Back Spin 43, listening to old school music. Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, EPMD and all the while, smoking a nice fat stogie relaxing on the hood of my car.

Now they took that away from me. What's next? No smoking in bars? Oh, wait

XM's friggin Blues station sucks so far from a programming standpoint. They really need to program the station like Sirius programmed before the merger took place.

I've been an XM subscriber since day one...three radios. They said if I re-upped from the plan I had to a 1-2-3 year plan, my rate would stay the same...but if I didn't, the price would go up. So I canceled them a little over a month ago and the e-mails just don't stop...I have received 3 fliers in the mail about reduced prices if "I come back". They were like 5 months for some cheap price, one year at a cheaper price....a fraction of what I was paying. I think I was paying $12.95 for the first radio and $6.95 a month for the other two....now they got bupcuss!

I looked into HD radio, but everything I read about it was so-so in the NY/NJ area plus it was back to commercial radio with machine gun talking DJs. I got back to burning DVDs for all my music again....ya' get a ton of music on those babies!

I do miss the musical variety and sound quality though!

Bye, bye XM/Sirius...till we meet again.

I like Sirius because of the Jamband and Grateful Dead channels plus football games. As long as they don't touch those, I will be happy.

As far as being a monopoly, I figure the only protection we will have is that if they raise prices too much, people will stop using it.

Wife got me this fancy HD rig for the car. I've had the XM receivers since day #1 also and listen about an hour a day during commute. HD in Denver is a loss. However, there is an optional unit for XM/Sirius that fits the HD rig that I've been chewing on getting. Its about another hundred bucks. Think I'll drop the hint on Santa.

Yeah, I hear ya...the HD radio in the Denver-Boulder area is mostly Clear Channel canned radio BS anyway, even if you did get it. My buddy lives out there and ran across the same thing.

Good Luck with Mrs. Claus on the 'hint dropping' :whistling:

Kool G Rap & DJ Polo..... Ah i miss those days

Holy chit.... I wasn't sure if anyone on CP was even familiar with those two names! :sign:

I don't know what the merger means for the company, but I hope it means something good for the stock price!
