Got this in an email from a buddy of mine:

image001.jpg

- New AR-15 assault rifles for the Department: $1,000.00 each.

- Training time: $1,000.00 per Officer.

- Picture on front page of the local paper with the officer standing in full view and not using any cover .....and with the gun magazine in backwards:

......PRICELESS!!!

The lack of knowledge and skill among some officers is scary. I could go on about this, but, in the end, the cursory requalification requirements are simply insufficient.

Believe me, I know what you mean... :whistling:

Wow, I have a "less than extensive" (read - zero) knowledge of guns and even I noticed that right away. What would have happened if she actually pulled the trigger - would the bullet fire backwards? ;)

Nature takes care of the slow ones. Think about this, if she passes the academy, she'll be enforcing the law. :0

I think this belongs in the 'Morning Chuckles' thread. It's funnier than some of the stuff those guys post in there. :whistling:

Wow...that is rediculous. You would think they would dummy proof those things...like that childhood game where balls only go in the circle hole, cubes only go in the square hole, etc. ;)

More likely it was a reporter who did not have a photo to go with the front page article and just grabbed a still from an old J' Lo movie..............it kind of even looks like Jennifer Lopez! :sign:

I don't think this is funny at all - in fact, it angers me. The paper reports this as a standoff with a presumed dangerous suspect, and this department poses an officer with a weapon she isn't familiar with? At least it isn't a Rambo pose with her finger on the trigger.

Thet cuts deep!

I am a member of an indoor range, which we use to chronograph and sight in. We even run a monthy USPSA match, which involves fast movement, reloads, negotiating obstacles, etc.

After the range was rebuilt from a fire, we walked in one day to find countless bullet holes in the walls, ceiling, and floor. When we checked the schedule, the local PD had just been in to use the range. :( There are a good number of officers that participate, practice, and take firearms knowledge very seriously. However, there are far too many on the opposite side of the spectrum. The woman in the picture likely passed her qualification as a matter of necessity, and her training ended there.

...Could this be a result of the lowering of standards??? :0

It's QUITE possible Jeff, quite possible. Based on the necessity for Law Enforcement Officers, and the Sheriff's Department and City Departments pushing to hire more and more Police Officers to meet their quota, we are beginning to see a decline in the quality of Law Enforcement Officer Recruit these days.

Perfect example is the Riverside County Sheriff's Department: They have a push to hire close to 3,000 Deputies by 2010. How are they going to do that with the waning numbers of recruits? Simple: LOWER YOUR STANDARDS. Overlook that petty theft you committed when you were 17. So what if you popped on your polygraph test, it was only on the question of "Have you tried marijuana?" It's not like they're addicted to methamphetamine or cocaine, right?

We are seeing more and more new boots coming out of the academy with lower quality, specifically the Sheriff's agencies, as the cities can still maintain that high standard because there isn't a push to hire more Officers.

From day to day interaction with some of these new fellas on the streets and in the jails, it's no wonder that these types of pictures are being taken!!

*Disclaimer: I am not bad-mouthing my fellow brothers in tan and greens, as I know many of them and have many friends inside the Sheriff's Department. But it's alarming when they start agreeing with what you're encountering in other new-hires. :0
