Someone forwarded the telemarketer call - and I fell off my chair in histerics much like you did.
As far as www.419eater.com - I found that doing reasearch for an ID Theft presentation on some of the more common Nigerian Scams. That place is phenomenal (for those who have not been there - I'd suggest a read of the "Tale of the Painted Breast").

Sometimes I make believe I can't speak english, or interpret for my wife who can't speak english. Or I keep changing the subject such as a T.V. show I watched. Sometimes I make believe I'm on the throne (use your imagination). etc.

VoIP has opened up a whole new world to the telescammer, George. Once again, technology has way outpaced regulation. I'd say you just wouldn't believe it, but I know you would.

I just got a call for steam cleaning carpets. It was a recorded message. If you want, I can PM the number to you. First telemarketing call I have received on the cell. I don't like it.

I have a telemarketing horror story - my little niece is in elementary, and everytime her school lunch balance goes negative, they send a pre-recorded message everyday ~7-8'ish (always during dinner). They called for like two weeks straight for a $0.10 balance.
I'd happily give them my credit card to leave me alone, because giving cash and trusting that an elementary kid pay off the balance is not working.
Can I give you that number? :laugh:

I might also add that you should google any telemarketer number you collect. If he is a phone spammer, you'll get hits. Post or PM the number to me in any event.

Now I've been dealing with semi-legit telescammers - collections people. One group in particular has been buying the payday loan deadbeat lists and using it to harass the person into paying all kinds of crazy money to "resolve" the debt. Overseas call centers tied to a US number via VoIP threatening to send agents to peoples houses to arrest them. Funniest damn thing I've ever heard - a voice with a heavy, heavy accent telling the person their name is something like "John Brown" and he's a special agent with an arrest warrant ready to suit up and head on over! Except that I'm absolutely amazed how many have fallen for the scam - and paid LOTS of money to "avoid" arrest. These scammers are violating the hell out of US laws, but difficult to go after.

866-526-7795 this was made at 9:03am on a beautiful SUNDAY morning. SOB's I was sleeping in from an even better night before. They said they had business with some BS name of someone I've never heard of & I've had this # for 2.5 years. I told them NO BUSINESS on Sundays & that person is not here. I could hear call center sounds in the background.

That's a blatant violation of the FDCPA. Regardless, that kind of debtor probably didn't get his MBA from Loyola.
He's nowhere near Georgia. He could be in a hotel room in New York, or in an office building in Dallas. Geography is irrelevant with VoIP. Hell, he could be in Bucharest.

I just happened to be going through our junk mail, and saw a "Final Notice" on my vehicle warranty.
"This letter is to inform you that your factory warranty has expired or is about to expire and you may extend your warranty coverage on the vehicle. Your extended warranty coverage expires on 6/30/2008."

They called (the phone number was blocked so I didn't get it) and I decided to stay on the line, and when the guy finally picked up he asked for the year & make of my vehicle. I said you called me, so why don't you tell me the year & make. He huffed, and said "If you're going to be hard, I'll pass it on to the next person!" WAAAAHHHAAA!

Based on the warranty subject, has to be my bad guy. However, no hits on either number. :angry:
Toll free numbers are not very easy to come by. I wouldn't think our warranty guy would use a number he couldn't burn inside of the 48 hour lifetime of the rest of his numbers.
