A while back Double D and I took care of a brother in need here at CP.

And he organized one of the nicest bombs / pifs we have ever seen or received.

The cigar I smoked tonight while at my local watering hole / beer bar was one of the many sticks that was included and I have to say, one of the better tasting cigars I've had in the last year or so.

It was Toro in size and it lit up with a ton of good tasting smoke, burnt well, and didn't get bitter all the way to the mustache burning nub.

Gentlemen, if your a Padilla / Tat / Pepin fan (and I don't even know if this is a Pepin blend but it has that "taste" ) add the 1948 to your "Have to try before I die!" list.

Thanks man. I will have to pull the trigger on some of these soon as I can. :) I love the 1932 line as well as the 1968 line, so hopefully these will be as good!!!!

Padilla 1948 is Pepin blend and will not be rolled by Pepin anymore after Padilla-Pepin split. You might want to stock up if you like the sticks so much~ ;)

Here's a review done on CP: http://www.cigarpass.com/forumsipb/index.php?showtopic=37492

I bought these as part of CI's Padilla Sampler right before the Holidays! It's a shame I couldn't have bought (10) of these 15ct samplers. When I got the 1948 I wasn't expecting much considering the fact the 1932 and 8&11 were the other 10 cigars. I was pleasantly suprised with a potent, woodsy, spicey cigar. However, the last few I've smoked about 2/3 into the cigar the taste got harsh and ash color was funky (dark charcoal).

Funny thing is I got that same sampler and posted it here. :) Cept mine came with the 1968 series and not the 48!! :) I love the 68 though, so no big deal!

merkinmullet gifted me one of these at a herf recently and I also thought it was tasty. I did find it a bit on the mild side, but it was definitely flavorful.

I like the 48 as well. I find the smaller ring cigars have a little more spice, while the more rotund have the wood dominating.
I havent liked the 32's from nicaragua AT ALL..just not the same cigar. It used to be my favorite.

This isn't going to be made at Padilla's new Miami factory like the others?

You sure?

Yes, they will be rolled at the new Padilla Miami factory, but we're not sure if the blend will change since Pepin is no longer involved..

Ah, I see what you meant. Won't be rolled by Pepin.

Well, so long as the triple caps, pigtails, and existence of the lancero vitola in most lines continues, if the tobacco is equal, it would be hard to change it *too* much.

I will grant that Don Pepin's quality control is outstanding, perhaps second only to Hendrik Kelner's.

Let's give Ernesto a chance though. He's not going to just screw up the very cigars that made him who he is.

Mercado Libre, sorry but I will disagree with your statement; " I will grant that Don Pepin's quality control is outstanding, perhaps second only to Hendrik Kelner's."

I know a lot of guys who smoke Peppins stuff and many of them complain they have construction issues with most of his lines. I personally have had a few pugged cigars and have seen others have issues with a loose roll. While Kelner does have excellent quality control, he is no better than Fuente or Padron in this category.

Peppin does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with Fuente, Padron and Kelner when it comes to this issue.

Just FYI guys,

The 1948 is NOT a Pepin blend..... straight from the keyboard of Ernesto Padilla. Check out this linky!

edit: oops.... it's the 1968 that's not the Pepin. My bad! Linky's still an interesting read though..... check it out!

I will agree that it does depend, to some extent, on the line. Some of the DPG branded stuff is made to a lesser standard than Tatuaje or Padilla. However, I personally have had better experience with Pepin's QC than Fuente's.

I did leave out Padron. They are up there, as well. Kelner... well. Between Davidoff and Avo, and the finer offerings from Cusano (Cuvee), I have not seen more well constructed cigars.

In contrast, I've had quite a few Fuentes, and Padrons for that matter, that do not burn properly or are over-or-underfilled.

We can agree to disagree.
