New seven deadly sins

They are actually the wealthiest entity in the world.

Do you have a source to back that up?

I tried to find something real quick but couldn't. I'll keep looking and post later if I come across it. I saw it on a documentary about the Roman Catholic church some time back either on the History channel or the Discovery channel. It is subjective however for several different reasons. But I do know that at the very least the Catholic church is arguably the wealthiest entity in the world.

I dont have a source but the Vatican has gold and such from the Crusades. Which makes them priceless.

My dad has a collection of ancient coins and some go back to Ancient Egypt, so those must be priceless as well, right? Hey, maybe my family is the wealthiest entity in the world

But I do know that at the very least the Catholic church is arguably the wealthiest entity in the world.

Part of the problem with saying the Catholic church is the weathiest entity is that individual parishes and dioceases are financially independant organizations from the Vatican. So, there is no real way to add up all these individual entities' worth into one large organization, b/c they all operate differently in spending and collecting money.

The second problem is what is wealth? Is it the value of all assets, the value of revenue coming in, the net value of assests? Naming any entity the most wealthy largely depends on how you classify weath. It could arguably be said that the U.S. is the wealthiest entity on the earth. Or Exxon....or Saudi Arabia......or Wal-Mart......take your pick.

Read this 2002 article from BusinessWeek; it might surprise you:

I too thought that the Catholic church came in the top 10 wealthiest but could not find the info. to back it up. However, the Holy See had a net gain of $8.5 mil in 2000 LINK.

Think about today's numbers! linky

..and a little more info!

excerpt:

The Vatican's treasure of solid gold has been estimated by the United Nations World Magazine to amount to several billion dollars. A large bulk of this is stored in gold ingots with the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, while banks in England and Switzerland hold the rest. But this is just a small portion of the wealth of the Vatican, which in the U.S. alone, is greater than that of the five wealthiest giant corporations of the country. When to that is added all the real estate, property, stocks and shares abroad, then the staggering accumulation of the wealth of the Catholic church becomes so formidable as to defy any rational assessment.

I'll just file these new guidelines along with the others I use to set my standards, like The KKK for Human Equality, the former management of Enron for Business Ethics, and Charles Manson for Rage Management ;)

I never said coins. A lot of older coins were made of other metals then gold. Have you ever seen National Treasure? Think along those lines. I have seen a few programs on TV about it.

So, your info comes from a site called "cloak and dagger" and says at the bottom that the NY Fed. Reserve is controlled by the Church through the Illuminati?? Credible source there Gary

The last link says that the Vatican's assets are only $5 billion, which probably wouldn't even put it into the top 100 wealthest PERSONS alive.

I have seen it. Good movie. The blonde chick is a fox. I don't know if I would be basing my arguments on something I saw on a hollywood blockbuster though. God knows how much buried treasure is out there or hidden....but speculating or naming T.V. shows does not help your argument.

Anybody else have a some information that does not involve the "Da Vinci Code?"

Wow....trying to digest all this info to come up with a good reply that applies to all the posts thus far....let's see...ah, I have it:

Who gives a shit.

Who gives a shit.

Actually that is the best post in this entire thread! I tried to say it but used too many words.

Hey look,

Not that any of you *should* give a shit about my opinion, and I dont expect you to...

That being said, if I'm going to hell, you'll all be there with me. That's gonna be one helluva party!

Cheers,
Rob

I didnt say the Da Vinci Code and never said I was basing it on National Treasure either, you are speculating. I said think along those lines. I figured that was easier then listing out Statues and stuff like that, BUT since I dont remember the name of the program I watched I will shut up.

My point by referencing the Da Vinci Code and National Treasure was that all anyone is saying or showing in this thread is speculation and "well, that's what I heard." If you have a good source showing that the Vatican is the or one of the wealthiest organizations on the planet, then by all means do so. I certainly am not going to tell you to shut up.

To tell the truth, I had always thought and heard they were one of the wealthiest organization too. That's why I wanted to see if anyone had any information to back that up.

Who knew being a fat lazy slob that lusted after big breasted chicks would be okay as long as you recycle?!?! Sweet!!

Whew! For a moment (as a good Catholic Boy) I thought I had to worry! John - I didn't know Miss Wrinkles had "large breasteses? and you don't strike me as lazy! :0 :sign:

G1 - You are correct that the new list is IN ADDITION TO & in CLARIFICATION OF the original list - although on a personal note I wonder where child molestation ranks?

AND Wyatt - YOU are correct Sir.
