Itching to get some cigars

Impetuous youth!

Budget means pacing yourself so you don't raise alarm with the wifely unit.

And thats why I havent ran out and bought some.

If you don't have any cigars you are on the wrong forum, this is a place we talk about our cigars.

Something does not sound right to me. This maybe the wrong hobby for you. Most people will buy cigars and put them on ziplock bags, tupperware, etc. You may be really into collecting humi's not cigars. Or this good could be veiled attempt to mooch. I hope I am wrong.

georgec very good gesture but caveat emptor

I cant stand it. I got my humi seasoning and will have to wait till next month to purchase some cigars (finances). I plan on doing a newbie trade. Its driving me nuts. I just started in this and cant stand looking at my Humi empty. Maybe this is a bad omen.

I had the same thought when I read this, but I'm hoping we are both just pessimists.

Here's the problem...you don't start a thread that remotely gets people thinking that you are a mooch. Personally, I'd rather send your sticks to Smitty but that's just my opinion and what do I know?

I thought this was a forum? Is it not where we post our thoughts? I was at work had a thought about cigars, (checking to make sure this is a cigar forum, yep it is) so I posted. I didnt realize how touchy some of you are. I have used this forum to learn about what I need in a humidor and how to maintain it. I have also been reading on what some decent cigars are. If there is something wrong with that also, please let me know.

Bill, you were doing good in your subsequent posts. But the post above could make it worse. As you correctly noted this is a forum were WE (you and everyone else) express our thoughts. I am glad to hear that you are trying to learn about cigars. I hope you stick around. If anything from this post, you need to really assess how much of your disposable income you can afford to burn on cigars and the accoutrements.

My point earlier was that you may have been better served spending your money on trying a stick at a time rather than dropping cash on a humi as most people I know who are starting on cigars. For all you know, you might not like it that much to start a collection.

Just my thoughts, of course.

My wife bought my humi for me for Valentines day. I was buying random sticks now and then, but wanted to get a humi so that I had them at hand for when I wanted one. I plan on sticking around unless this ruined my reputation here. I will buy and smoke cigars when I can, just because I am waiting on an expense check from work, which I will get next month means nothing.

This forum is actually one of the better forums that I have been on. I have already met a few guys to play COD4 with and a guy that is into R/C cars and planes, im into cars.

I don't think you've ruined your reputation. Too bad you're not in the NY area, I would invite you to a HERF :) Lotsa cigars but more importantly, lotsa a good people to share with! As I said, I hope you stick around and learn as much as you can about cigars.

Best,

Joe

It hurts sometimes!

The majority of folks who have been here for longer than a year and read your initial post probably thought something similar to what I did: "Is this a mooch attempt?"

Now, it may or may not have been a mooch attempt, but that really doesn't matter at this point. The real question at this point is how you will react/respond to having your intentions questioned.

What you and all new members need to understand is that we have seen many mooch attempts. They come in various shapes and styles, but most read like your initial post. Some guys are going to call you on it, but almost ALL are going to keep an eye on you and your actions until you have established yourself as a true BOTL.

Is this being "touchy"? Perhaps. But that's how it is.

Again, though, the real question for many of us is not whether the initial post was a mooch attempt. The real question is how you respond. Personally, I hope you respond well and stick around to take advantage of all the great things this board has to offer.

So I take it there has been alot of attempts to "Mooch" cigars of the experienced members here?

Hopefully I havent come off that way to any members here, I'm really just trying to grab as much information as I can. This Thursday coming after work I'm going to stop by the local shop and hopefully pick up my first humidor along with some cigars. I really have just been trying to get as much information from some experienced members here on humidors and such. So I hope I haven't been coming off as a mooch.

After sending a few PM's back and forth with him today I don't really think he was trying to mooch. I also know I am new here and nobody knows me either but seeing how I am the one who said they would send him cigars they will be in the mail Monday morning. If he wasn't trying to mooch which I don't think he was I hope he enjoys them. If he was trying to mooch I hope they make him sick.LOL

The experienced members can take care of themselves. We've seen mooching before and know what it looks like. It's usually the guys who are fairly new here -- those who have experienced the generosity of CP and who just want to pay it forward to others -- who get taken.

Well I thought about that also after I posted but maybe not. I really don't need some of these cigars I am not smoking taking up space. So I'll take the chance if he replies.

Just to show I am not a mooch I will not accept them. Thanks though George I really do appreciate it.

Dude's wife bought him a humi and he's low on dough but wants to get involved in the community. He wants to talk about cigars and maybe brag a little bit about the new humi he got, and he's excited about getting some smokes to go in it. Whether George sends him a little care package or not, he has publicly stated that he doesn't want them and thanked George for the gesture. Take the guy at his word and you may be the recipient of a future billbaker3 bomb. Don't keep hammering the guy because he might not know the proper posting protocol or didn't parse his words just right.

AND... he has also posted several replies in other threads and none that I can see even hint at mooching. In fact, he even offered another CPer to help him out with a discount on a smoke eater 'cause he works for an HVAC company who sells them. Seems to me he has already shown the true spirit of what a BOTL is supposed to be.

JMO is all...
