Anyone else limit themselves?

Biggest limiting factor for me is that I just don't feel like smoking every day. Weather is also a factor; I smoke a few a week in warm weather and maybe a few a month in the middle of the winter.

Regarding health issues, no need to think about that as my son reminds me everytime I light up :(

I try hard to make the time to smoke 2-3 a week, i'm usually successful. When events on weekends get me smoking more than usual, i lay off during the week.

Because my daughter is a serious asthmatic, there's no smoking in the house, so all my smoking is done outdoors or in the garage.

In nice weather, I'll smoke normally 2-3 a day which may include any or all of 1 at lunch, 1 after work, 1 after dinner and one later if company are over and we're sitting outdoors.

Wintertime, I'd say I average 1 a week.

However, that being said, between November 2nd - 9th, I'll be limited only to 1 or more of everything in the shop at the resort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like the OP, I try to limit my number of smokes to 3-4 per week.
And I also try to stop a smoke when the cigar turns hot. I don't have any ground to support that, but I just feel there is a higher health risk when the smoke turns too hot.

It's more of a time issue really. I agree with what's been said about giving yourself enough time to really enjoy a cigar. If I don't have enough uninterrupted time to really enjoy a cigar I won't start one(most of the time anyway). I just have to wait until the right time which usually ends up being about once or twice a week if I'm lucky.

This kind of sums up my feelings on this too.

There was a question posted a few months ago that trailed off in the same general direction as this one. Basically, there are quite a few people here who share this sentiment; "I don't smoke just for the sake of smoking, I smoke to relax / enjoy / socialize / etc. I let the opportunities dictate when I smoke and sometimes what I smoke. If I can't carve out an hour or two to enjoy a cigar, It's not worth even firing one up.

When George Burns was in his 80's someon once aked him if he worried about the damage cigar smoking was doing to
his health. GB lived to be 101 and smoked 6 Churchill size cigars a day. :D

For me it just depends. I try to keep it to 1-2 a week, but that always varies. I might not have 1 for a couple weeks. Or like last weekend I had 4. It just depends on what is going on as far as special occasions/socializing/ whatever else might deserve a cigar. Though I try to control how many I have, life usually decides for me.

Cash flow usually limits me. The overall cleanliness and odor of my car is also a limiting factor, considering its my favorite place to smoke.
Weather is an occasional limiting factor, however, health is Never a limiting factor.

Maybe its because I'm still young and think that nothing will ever happen to me, but I never think about my health when smoking cigars.
Usually, I smoke twice a week. However, if I happen to be going on a long trip, such as a drive back to my parent's home in South Carolina, I can easily go through 3-4 cigars on the way down (daily; takes ~2 days drive), and 3-4 on the way up.

Lately I have been on a routine of two cigars a day... I wake up and grab my coffee and a Tatuaje P-series out of my desktop humi for on my way to work... Then, in the evening after dinner I enjoy something else.

I seem to always smoke my "premiums" in the evenings when I can really relax and devote the time to fully enjoy a nice cigar..

Being a college student and all I usually have a lot going on so time is definitely a limiting factor. Usually I will have 1-2 per week. At most I highly doubt I will ever smoke more than five a week as I too worry a little about the health risks associated with smoking too frequently. I kinda feel as a young man I should pace myself seeing as though I wont be quitting any time soon. I'm hoping that I have a lot of years ahead of me and at my comfortable pace I will get a chance to enjoy a LOT of cigars. That's just me...I say do whatever floats your boat

Bro - my situation mirrors yours almost entirely, although - even with classes (15hrs a week), homeowrk, and my part-time job (24-30 hours a week) i still find time when I could light up quite a few cigars. The part of your statement that almost completely sums my situation up is this: "I too worry a little about the health risks associated with smoking too frequently. I kinda feel as a young man I should pace myself seeing as though I wont be quitting any time soon. Time is also my biggest limiting factor. If I go to the B&M and hang out I'll probably smoke two, but usually it's mostly one a day.

I do not smoke in the house or car and living in the midwest that is one big reason why winter sucks. When weather and time permit I enjoy a cigar, I try never to rush it. I consider the health benefits of relaxing with a good stick to balance out any adverse affects.

I smoke too much but I don't worry about it. In fact, I enjoy it! ;)

First off I apologize for resurrecting this month old thread... but I found some information I thought might be interesting to the people who had expressed health concerns in this thread.

I found this to be a very interesting read.

The findings of the National Cancer Institute indicate that casual cigar smokers (1-2 per day) who do not inhale the cigar smoke have a increased risk of lung / oral cancers which doesn't even satisfy the margin of error, making the effective increased risk absolutely 0.

Obviously, regular cigar smokers (especially those who smoke more than 1-2 per day) have to face some increased health risks. But even those risks are relatively low when compared to, say, smoking cigarettes.

Also an interesting second-hand smoke quote from the blog article:

...The hysterics focus on this fact and loudly proclaim that there is "no safe level of tobacco smoke." In my research into this question I even ran across a test done by the National Cancer Institute, which tried to show that going into a smoking lounge filled with cigar smokers at a cigar night was dangerous, so the measured the Carbon Monoxide level, and found that at peak levels for the night the room was as dangerous as breathing in your car on the highway...

Oops! While I'm beating this dead horse I might as well answer the main question of the thread... :whistling:

Yes, I limit myself partially because of the health risks. However, it's mostly because I find that if I'm anticipating a great smoke tonight or tomorrow night, it makes the smoke that much more enjoyable than if it's always available 'on demand' On average I may go through 2-5 smokes per week, depending on work load / stress / free time.

The paper from the National Cancer Institute should be a sticky! Its pretty long though and might cut into cigar smoking time if you read it all ;)
