Does it drive you crazy?

If I ever need a touch up I throw the stick away and light a new one. Hell Connie's are only a little over a buck each, why mess around?

I smoked butts for 25 years and just can't help myself.

Bruce:

This is interesting. I have a friend who would always pick the best butt out the ashtray the morning after a card game because he is always the first one up when the guys are at my cabin. We used to make fun of him but now we all do it. Coffee and the last 20 minutes of a good stick is a great way to start a Saturday followed with fishing or just a bon fire cooking/beer drinking day.

Edited for grammar.........

My sentiments exactly!

Only here could we yak over somebody smoking an hours old cigar butt, but not bat an eye at Sailors and Marines eating urinal cakes!

... I try not to let the ash get more than about 1.5" long. When ash gets this long, tap off and blow out through the cigar to purge the nasties and refresh the stick...

Wilkey,

I've heard about doing this after the light, but never after that. You purge the cigar after every ash? Have you found a benefit?

I purge a few-times during a smoke. Mostly after a tough-up light, and more often in teh final 1/2-1/3 of the stick.

Seems to keep the flavors "brighter" and less muddled.

I also touch up with the torch if it is burning unevenly. The best solution I have found is to be patient after recieving new cigars, to let them set at least a couple of weeks in the humidor as a lot of burn issues, I think come from uneven moisture content or because they are overly wet. The last 2 boxes of Fuentes I bought were very wet with them now including the Humid-pak in the box. Smoked one the day they came in and it smoked very hot and could not stay lit. Waited 2 weeks and then it smoked great. The first cigar I would never want another of, but after 2 weeks drying out ( 63%) it was totally different.
