Box of Padilla 1932 Toro

Very nice! Stupid question but what are those MT, I wasn't aware Padilla had an EL?

These are from the Padilla factory and are signed by Ernesto I believe. The cigars are Padilla 8&11 Salomones presented in an EL box. I'll post some more pics after I get back from the PO. :)

Edited to Add Picture.

BTW,

Here's what I received. CigarPlace has another box out to me and I will be back to report when that gets here.

The box came with the top half of the clasp torn off. The lid was loose and could not be locked to the bottom half of the box. There was a gouge on the top of the lid. Curiously, my box did not have the Edicion Limitada sticker that Mark Twain's box had.

The cigars spent several days on a truck and the cigar box was not sealed in shrink, bubble, ziploc, etc. Just loose in a cardboard box filled with packing peanuts. The cigars had none of the great aroma of the other specimens I have on hand. Even after a few days in my humidor, when I open the box all I smell is cedar. IMO, these cigars had lost their flavor.

I smoked one and it was a shadow of the robusto sent to me by atuck. I tasted only a thin, peppery profile. Gone was the powerful, rich tobacco flavor of the Atuck robusto. This is as far as I could bring myself to smoke it.

Here is a closeup of the band.

Here is the analog to the Cuban warranty seal sticker.

Here is the bottom of my box. Mine was dated Jan 2007 while Mark's was dated Dec 2006.

My box of Toros is from DEC. 2006 and they are as Wilkey describes, Powerful, rich tobacco flavor. In fact after the couple I've smoked I would add intoxicating. One of the finnest cigars I've ever smoked.

Go ahead. Just make me feel worse why don't you. :(

Don Pepin is so obsessed with recreating the Cuban mystique of his cigars that I wonder If the inconsistencies from box code to box code aren't done on purpose.

Doc.

Edited for the Sisters of Perpetual Misery. I do so not want to be an embarrassment to them.

And that post right there is going to force me to take my lone robusto out of the humidor the next time the weather is right.

Anyone else salivating?

Greetings!

The truth of the matter regarding the damaged box is that the website which provided this box is not even an authorized retailer of Padilla Cigars.
When I was made aware of this situation, I quickly contacted Marc and naturally asked where he obtained this box.
We make a very limited quantity of cigars and to tell you the truth, any and every order that goes through our office passes through Ernesto's hands as well as mine.
Hell, we package most of the orders as well!

Long story short, when we found out the name of the website, we had never even heard of it. When we contacted them, they did not want to tell us where they received the product from.
Thus, situations like this arise where someone has received an obviously bad box and just by the look of it, I knew there was more to it than an oversight at the Little Havana factory.
Moving forward, we are marking all of our 1932 & 8/11 boxes with special codes that will allow us to find out what tobacconist originally ordered it. With such a small production, we cannot allow anyone to receive a subpar product and let alone not even know who the supplier was.

That being said, I appreciate the support on this forum and look to contribute more in the near future.

All the best,

Frank Santos

See? This is the mark of a good company.
Most manufacturers/vendors in any other industry would have told you "You didn't buy it from us or one of our resellers so too bad".

I haven't had any of Padilla's products yet, but you can bet I'll try some now.

Well done Frank!

Wilkey, I would have thought that they would have learned to ship better boxes by now. Definitely interested in seeing what they send you next. I'm surprised ppl keep ordering from them. Is it the pricing that's attractive?

Hello, the box I sent Wilkey was not opened and inspected for quality. That box was sent before I discovered via Marc that some boxes were not arriving in "tip top" condition.

For some reason, which I don't know why, Padilla has sent out some boxes with a El Rey Del Los Habanos sticker and some with a Padilla 8/11 sticker. Don't know why, but I know this has been done.

Second, I think I have figured out why some cigars have arrived damaged:

The boxes are too big for the cigars, they do not fit snugly in the box, so they move up and down. Sometimes, breaking the foot of the cigars a bit and sometimes loosening them up while in transit. They are not packaged in cellophane, so this makes matters worse. Some companies, like Rocky Patel package cigars that don't have cellophane(RP Edge line) with sponge like padding between the head and the box and the footer and the box, this helps a lot.

Whether we package a box with a ton of Styrofoam "peanuts" or just with a thin layer of newspaper, if the cigars are not packaged correctly in the box, they will not arrive in "tip top" condition even if you ship it accross the street.

I have also noticed this problem with other Miami made boxes at El Rey Del Los Habanos factory, including Miami 8/11 and the Pepin line.

Thanks,

Julian

I also work retail and we carry Padilla, Miami 8/11 and Tatuaje Brown. We have absolutely never had a box arrive not to tip top condition and all boxes were packed with a LOT of care. Our most recent order looked like it fell off a truck, but, because it was packed in bubble wrap AND packing peanuts, every thing inside was ok. The cigars fit the boxes perfectly, every time, the Miami 8/11s sometimes almost too tight (as in - if you take the first one out, it's impossible to get back in).

Julian - I suggest contacting your reseller and asking them how they are handling the boxes. Swings in humidity could be warping the boxes, making them stretch and shrink and damaging the cigars (I'm not a wood worker, but I understand wood "moves).
