So, I never smoked anything.. I always thought cigarettes smelled revolting and never saw the point.

However, I have totally realized what I was missing with cigars!

It started innocently with a smoke with a friend, who is also otherwise a non-smoker. Then it became a once a week thing. Now, it's getting to the point of a couple days a week. It isn't a craving per se'. It just feels so relaxing and enjoyable.

Now, I"m looking for good retailers both local and online(local would be nice to sample new gars). I've also found myself looking at desktop humi's and the instructions for coolerdor.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I think a lot of people are familiar with some variation on this chain of events. The first thing I would suggest is you head over to the newbie sampler trade thread in the tade/buy/sell forum of this board. I guarantee it is the way to go if you want to try some new stuff without breaking the bank. The FOGs will take really good care of you

I started innocently also. I'm a runner and was against cigarette smoking and smoking in general. Then I went to the Dominican Republic on vacation. While there I took a tour of a cigar museum. It was fascinating. I had no idea what went into making a cigar. While there I bought a small tin of Cohiba Pequenos for a co-worker who smoked cigars. He never got them

To make a long story short I liked cigars so much I turned one of my porches into a smoking room complete with leather loveseat, ceiling fan, exhaust fan, and 32" lcd TV.

The best thing is my running (recreational not competetive) hasn't been effected at all, and if anything I am going farther and my old aches and pains don't seem as bad.

Not yet. I'm looking at a few desktop starters. Any recommendations?

This is how I got started too. I have bought 3 desktop humidors in the last 5 months. I would suggest buying a humidor larger than you think you need, because you will fill it up more than you think.

Although I haven't done it (yet), many people recommend building a Coolidor which I see you are considering.

Welcome to CP!

I bought this (the cherry finish)

http://www.cigarmony.com/store/product_inf...products_id=317

haven't recieved it yet, still in shipping. I figure this small one will be my "smoking" box and I'll probably get a larger one for an aging/storage box.

to me, even though a coolidor is so cost effective and efficient to store cigars, I like aesthetics, especially since this is meant to be a relaxing hobby. a plastic cooler doesn't quite go with a belly glass of cognac and a premium stogie.

Oh contraire. Plastic coolers are the focal point of my decor, I just buy the other furnishings that match my coolerdors. Works out great! :D

Sounds like me a couple months ago.

My father died of lung cancer (pack a day for 34 years) when I was a boy, so cigarettes are not high on my list.

I tried a cigar here and there over the years and found them quite nice, but I was worried about the health issues. Met a guy at work who smokes cigars and he gave me some of the medical reports that focus on cigars rather than cigarettes. After looking at the risks, I decided that they were low enough to not worry about and enjoy a smoke a couple times a week.

I have higher health risks at my job than from occasional cigar smoking. I can live with those odds.

Been a downhill freefall ever since. Way too many different cigars out there to try. Gonna by busy sampling for quite some time.

Welcome to the board GSxTC. I agree with Insight, the newbie sampler is a great way to get a nice variety of smokes. As far as a humidor, start with a decent desktop and a coolerdor. Set those bad boys up and prepare to start hiding your new found expensive habit from the wifey. Good luck and see ya around!

She's actually used to expensive hobbies.. I build and race cars and bikes..lol

I've been shopping for coolers the past couple nights and think I'll try the coolerdor, and after holiday season pick up a desktop humi. Once I get a good humi set up, I'll get in on the Newb sampler, because it does sound like a great idea!
