Smoking room

Huh...you know of a company that sells those do-it-yourself kits? Especially insulted.

Then, how to run power from the house? I want enough room for 4 guys to sit around and smoke.

The kit's can be bought w/o the wood and inculations. It's just the brackets that tie the wood together.

I have a couple catalogs and HD and Lowe's have the kit's too.

Wiring...we need to make sure it's down below the frost line to not have many worries.

The big issues up here will be the platform which it's on AND who's shoveling a path out to the shed!

Shoveling? How about just trudguing through the snow with the traveldor held above the head? Platform...huh, you don't just drop it on the lawn?
I don't know what inculations are. I think it best if I do not construct this on my own...

I am in the process of turning a small covered porch into a smoking room. It's only 9x10 but that should be plenty big enough for what I have in mind.

So far I've installed 2 24x36 casement windows up high on the one outside wall and a 48x48 casement on the other wall along with a 32" 1/2 glass steel door. This will give me a nice look outside to my large backyard and pool through the larger window but give me privacy towards my closest neighbor. I have run wires for a ceiling fan and on the one wall and put in an outlet and cable outlet next to each other so I can mount a small flat screen TV on the wall. I tee'd into a heating duct from a powder room that I usally had the vent closed, and ran that into the new room but without an air return to keep the smoke out of the AC/heating system.

The porch is off my kitchen so I'm taking off the steel exterior door and installing a 15 lite glass door. When I'm using the porch I can keep the door shut to keep the smoke out of the house and when it's all clear I can keep it open. Either way it will let a lot more light into the kitchen since the exsisting door is solid.

I plan on getting either a leather couch or a couple of big club chairs to put opposite the TV screen. I'm not sure if a 7' couch will fit through a 32" door?

My plan is to crack open the windows if it gets too smokey, but I figured I can always add a bathroom type exhaust fan since I can get above the room from my garage attic.

I must be crazy since I've only been smoking for a little over 1 month. My vacation to the Dominican Republic has ended up costing me way more than I ever would have known.

PS- I enjoyed a CAO Gold corona while admiring my spackle job tonight.

Actually you can buy the kits that contain all pre-cut wood pieces and you just put it together. They deliver it to you, unload the pallets, and you just follow the assembly instructions. It's really not all that hard. Up here the best place to get them is Menards (like Home Depot), I don't know if Loews or HD have the same thing. I know the HD up here is actually selling the kits and assembling them for people. It's quite an upcharge, but they get it done in one day.

As for the "inculations", I think you'll have to do that yourself. Insulation is easy and finishing off the interior shouldn't be all that difficult if you're handy at all.

Running power isn't difficult, but depending where you live (and how comfortable you are doing it) it may have to be done by a licensed electrician. If you go above board and get permits and all that you should get that kind of info. My FIL had a bowling buddy do it (he was licensed) for a few beers and dinner out.

2 words: Home Office
It is the greatest invention for any married man. And the bonus: write off all of it as tax deductible!

I am thinking of going with the bathroom vent. I was looking at some smoke eaters online and they are pricey. The most expensive bathroom fan was 120 and moved alot of air.... Also looked at some wine coolers. Still debating on if I should make the walk in humidoor and wine cooler downstairs or up in my office. Decisions decisions.

Trying to get this all lined out. Tax return time is drawing near....

They're called fart sniffers in MO

Most are pretty cheap, I think the two I've installed were below $60. Only real issue I had with them were the noise.

More $ = less noise. Check out diiferent brands and really think about where you want to mount it in relation to where you'll sit and smoke because you don't smoke spreading outside the room on its way to the fan.

Also think about how often you'll have to clean the fan with it sucking cigar smoke all the time. ;)

Yea I am mainly concerned with the amount of air moving versus the noise... It is sure cheaper than 800 air king that the local B&M has, which by the way does a hell of a job...

Most of the time when I will smoke in there I will have the door closed and there are no cold air returns in that room, so the chance of it spreading is slim....

AS far as mounting it I was thinking above the closet/humi, that way when I go to resell the house there won't be a big fan in the middle of the room...
