Has anyone heard of these?

So far only found at CI, I wonder if these are made only for CI, as I have seen others.

exerpt from site:
This highly anticipated Rocky Patel 'Fusion' has caused what amounts to seismic tremor among the cigar nuts. The original concept was to fuse the tastes of the RP Vintage '90 with the RP Vintage '92, creating what some would consider the ultimate connoisseur's cigar. Countless months, weeks and days blending and re-blending has finally yielded the finished product. If you're a Rocky Patel fan, I think you'll agree that the result is stunning.

RP 'Fusion' is a luxurious, multi-layered blend with a head Cuban-esque character. A lovely, chestnut-hued, oily Habano wrapper on the outside conceals a truly flawless Connecticut leaf underneath. Those who've sampled the advance release have proclaimed the RP 'Fusion' to be either the very best, or at minimum among the top of Rocky's creations to date. This is a hot potato, and I'd jump on it quick like.

I saw the blurb in the catalog as well. Hadn't heard of it prior to that. From the name 'Fusion' I was afraid it was gonna be another flavored cigar.

Anyone tried one? Or heard anything about this at all?

Looks interesting but to tell you the truth I didn’t find that much of the flavor profiles different from the 90 to the 92’s. Perhaps if I smoked them back to back I might notice something.

Huh. My inclination has always been to toss hot potatoes...and what is "a head cubanesque character," anyhow? :p

I kinda agree with Mrepp. I'll try one at some point though, just cuz.

Wouldn't the fusion of a 92 and 90 be a 91?
Now, now, ther's no reason to be flip. I, on the other hand, take this as a serious opportunity to experiment. I've taped a '91 to a '92 and just lit them.
So far, so good, except a little bitterness at the tape.

I ordered a box last night, of course the are back ordered. I heard about a new RP Vintage series on a Podcast (now I can't find it  ), it was going to be called Vintage 1999. I can't remember the wrapper and filler, doh! Wonder if it's the same thing with a name change? Where's Mr. Peat? He might know.

Cool! I won't get them from Thompson, but glad to see they are out. I'll find them later, when the wife goes to sleep :whistling:

I smoked the 99' thanks to a fine botl and I didnt care for the lightness of it.Plus it was too damn tight too judge correctly at no fault to the botl.

I never heard of the fusion but as I mentioned on this mans topic at another place,I did try the RP Cuban Blends from Famous and I love them.
I also have had the pleasure of smokeing the vengance....also a good gar'.

I find this intersting since the only difference between a 90 & 92 is the wrapper.
It sounds like someone in the marketing offices of the people selling these cigars is getting very creative.
Also from the description it sounds like this has a Connecticut Binder.
This would make it a "Fusion" of the 90/92 and the 99 Conn. which was released at the RTDA this year.

I do know that Jesus (Rockys blender) works on blends almost everyday, so it wouldnt surprise me that there are tons of cigars coming out of his camp in many
different configurations, some become Rocky Patel cigars and most of them go to internet cigar sellers. There is a ton of his product on the market, lots of it on the internet because they are experimental blends that just dont quite make the grade. They are good cigars, dont get me wrong but just not what they were looking for from that particular blend. So instead of scraping the entire lot, they become internet only cigars.
Rocky's quality control standards are so tight he rejects about 60% of the cigars rolled. So factory selects and seconds become a market he uses to avoid taking a complete loss on cigars he deems not up to snuff for his band and/or box.

I've also heard that Rocky Patel has a really high reject rate for his cigars; it's all over the ads for his 2nds. The sell line has always been that he's just trying to get the best quality. But I've always suspected that maybe that his rollers just aren't as good as other places. This is purely speculation on my part. Does anyone have information about the skills of his rollers? Anyone ever been to his factory tour?

BTW, I love his Vintage 1990 line.

I bought a bundle of the 1992 seconds a year ago, and by and large they're terribe. I haven't had one that smoked like a regular release 1992 (which aren't too bad).

Are the 2nds you got the ones they say are rejected purely for cosmetic reasons? I've always been tempted by the 2nds since I like the line.

I was thinking late last night that the 1999 is probably pretty close to the RP Connecticut, which is a pretty good Sunday morning after breakfast smoke BTW.

I made the trip to Rocky's in January, the rejection is based mainly on look and color. This group is known as a Factory Select. If they have flaws or blemishes they are grouped as seconds.

He has rollers of all grades, from seasoned to beginners, the rejection is not from the quality of the roll, if they arent rolled right they never make it to ANY market.

His factory and facilities are among the cleanest and neatest in the industry.
Not that it makes the cigars any better but it was very impressive to me. :D

Heh see I snatched up a bundle of the RP 92 seconds when they first became available and think there a damn tasty treat especially for the price. I’d be hard for me to pay full price to just to get the bands on it.
