Any Geocachers here?

Funny you should ask that. I think I actually learned what geocaching was from this website sometime last year! I got a GPS (Garmin Vista Cx) for my birthday, but with things being so busy this summer, I have only gone out a handful of times. Still not very good at it, but fun nonetheless! Maybe I can find some time this weekend...hmmmm...
 
Yep, we had a post about this last year sometime. It looks like a really fun hobby, and there's a lot of caches around where I live. No, I haven't ever done it yet, but it is on my list of things to try!
 
My wife and I have been doing the geocaching thing. There was a post here maybe six months ago about it, and it got me interested. Nancy saw something on TV about it maybe 4 months ago and thought it was interesting. About a month ago Woot had a cheapo Magellan for a decent price so I asked my wife about getting one. Of course she said yes :) It is scary living with that woman.

We have only found 21 caches, but it has been very interesting and educational.

I'm getting ready to start. A lot of my friends do it, and we have a lot of caches here. I'm just trying to get time/remember to research a good handheld unit that won't dent my cigar budget too much. ;)

As I noted above we bought a Magellan 300. Some dumbass :whistling: left it on the dashboard on a 110 degree day, and it met it's end.

We purchased a Garmin Legend at Walmart for $150. It is an awesome improvement!
We can download the waypoints to it instead of keying them in. It has a "nearest waypoints" feature that is VERY useful in cache dense areas. There are other whiz bang features also, but these are the most useful to geocaching.

I would recommend it as a cheap entry level device.
 
This sounds like a great idea for a scavenging hunt during a weekend Herf. Plan a day for chacing. Put a small cooler and herfador at each point. Each 2 person team can each take 1 beer and 1 cigar at each cache. The final cache being the herf location. This would even work great in an urban setting. Each cache being a bar, cigar store, sporting goods store, etc.

I've known about this hobby for a few years, and it seems like it would be fun. There are a TON of "treasures" near my house. I live just a few miles from the mountains, with a lot hiking trails. When I get a GPS unit, I'll give this hobby a try.
 
I took my 13 year old son out yesterday. We hunted down 5 caches, all within 3 miles of the house.

We had a blast trying (unsuccessfully) to dodge sprinklers on one hunt and laughed our asses off at the whole experience. I'll remember that outing forever! :thumbs:
 
Bilder is my geocaching handle as well. I have several caches hidden up here. Had not been out caching much the last couple years, hope to get back into it this summer.
 
I am another that learned about it through that thread. I am getting into it now that I am in Arizona, and have some really cool places around me to seek out.

I got this badboy for Christmas, so I am awaiting it anxiously. Should be here tomorrow.

I think a cigar cache hunt would be sweet...
