my wife i were involved in a major colission fri night around 11:30pm. my vechicle, a toyota highlander, is a total loss, we both have minor injuries to our bodies (cuts and bruses). my entire right side and back and neck are in pain, and jenn has some of the same.
we were both rushed to south county hospital and checked out, the doc said no breaks, but we are going to be sore for 4-5 days. we were released from the hospital satuday.
the short story is we were folllowing my friend home from dinner, a vechicle traveling at a high rate of speed tried came up behind me and tried to pass us on a 2 lane road and in a no passing zone. he came on the side of my vechicle and there was oncoming traffic, he apparently cut his wheel before he cleared my car, hit my rear bumber and spun us into the oncoming lane, we were going appprox 45mph, the police estimate he was doing close to 100mph. my vechicle spun a 180, and headed for the woods, we ran into a ditch and we impacted a very large tree on the passenger side at approx 50mph. the passenger side of the car was almost pushed into the drivers side, all the windows exploded, the dashboard was in my knees, the passenger side door looked like a folded piece of paper and my airbags deployed. i don't know how we didn't get killed, the police and emt's could not believe we survived the impact, let alone walked in to the ambulance (my wife was on a stretcher and had her head isolated, she took the brunt of this on her side of the car).i am still in shock, cause whatever i did or didn't do, probably saved my wife and i. the bad part is i only had 12 more payments on my car, the good, we walked away with minor injuries, and the doc was nice enough to give me an ample supply of vicodan and a muscle relaxor that makes me talk very strange :) . i am very, very sore, swollen in places i forgot existed, and see some very strange colors in patches of my skin. this is gonna take a while to recover from.

Geez Rob,

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. It's great that you two are in fairly good condition. Let the docs keep an eye on you and I hope the insurance company will take care of things.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Wilkey

Damn..... glad to hear you are both OK (So to speak). Get lots of rest.

I hope this guy had some good insurance.... When ya feel up to it, get yourself a good lawyer so they can start getting all of the paperwork from the accident, hospital and all follow-up doctors visits.....

Never good to hear, but obviously glad you lived to tell about it.

So, the guy that cut you off...did he keep going or whats the deal with that? Please tell me he didn't get away.

Scary story, glad to hear you and your wife are ok. Make sure to go into the E.R. right away if you or the wife feel any worse.

actually it is 3 perps...ages 23-29...2 of them are known "players" in the area the officer informed us. they were in the wood on the opposite side of the road, as soon as the polie began arriving, they were spread ealged and searched. the rest is kinda fuzzy as the EMT's were working on my wife and i and we were wisked away into the resucue to prepare for transport to the hosp. i should have the police report tomorrow, i will have more info then. the officer told us the driver had an insurance card on him...expired of course. i don't even know what type of car hit us.

thanks you guys for the well wishes, i am going to the impound yard to get my persanl affects from the vechicle, i hope to take pics. right now, me an mr vicodan are heading off to bed. thanks again all, you guys are the best.

Dayum, Rob - glad to hear you and the bride made it out in one piece. Hope you recover quickly - take it easy and smoke some nice cigars...

There are times when I really hate tort reform - this is one of them... This guy should have to give up everything he owns, and HOPES to own for pulling a Hollywood stunt like this. WTF do some people think!!!

Don't mean to threadjack - but this goes back to the DUI thread and my observations about "impairment". Obviously this dipass doesn't believe there is anyone else on the road other than himself, and whatever he is doing is WAY more important than anyone else...

Glad to hear you and your wife are going to be ok. Hopefully the card was old & he does have insurance. Get well soon.

GOOD LORD, glad to know you're alright, now get a lawyer and make this jerk pay for his indulgences! too many people living in their own little world, a small amount of courtesy goe a long way!

Rob, I hope the both of you heal quickly. Sorry to hear about this.

guess if you look on the bright side, I'm damned glad to see how annoyed you are, rather than hearing about news much worse. Your angels were on duty man!

Rob,
So glad to hear that you and your wife walked away from this terrible accident. That really is the important thing. Even if you are sore for a while, it could have been so much worse.
Good luck healing up. I might be in Middletown/Newport next weekend. If you need me to run by with a large scotch (to wash down the vicoden) and a nice stick to ease the pain, let me know.

PS- if you are going to lawyer route, I went to lawschool in RI, and lived there for a few years, I might be able to point you in the right direction (or at least help avoid the wrong ones).
