A brief guide to keeping your cigars safe during their trip.
Materials List:
- Tupperware container (you decide the size)
- Humidifier (RH bead humidifier’s are best, particularly the cylindrical type)
- Hygrometer (digital is best)
- Packing material (peanuts, shredded paper, etc.)
- Freezer Baggy
- USPS flat rate box (optional)
Packing your cigars correctly for their journey is crucial to ensuring a successful cigar pass. No one wants to receive a box of pipe tobacco unexpectedly!
Many members opt to convert a suitable-sized Tupperware container into a travel humidor for their cigar pass. It’s a straightforward process: acquire a digital hygrometer and a humidifier, both of which can be easily found online at affordable prices. It’s recommended to use humidifiers with RH beads, as they regulate humidity more effectively, safeguarding your cigars from extremes.
When preparing your cigars, place them in a freezer baggy for added protection (freezer baggies are generally thicker and more durable). Place this baggy inside the Tupperware container, along with the hygrometer and humidifier. Secure the container’s lid and, if necessary, tape it shut before placing it into a shipping box.
Following these steps will help ensure your cigars arrive safely and in optimal condition, ready for enjoyment by the next participant in the pass.

USPS provides convenient flat rate shipping options that include the box, with choices such as the shoebox size available. For details on all shipping options, please visit their website. We recommend using Priority Mail Flat Rate Service to maintain fairness in pricing for all participants and to ensure the appropriate size shipping box is utilized. However, you are welcome to specify any additional rules or requests as needed.
Shipping
Please ensure that you ship your pass to the nearest participant geographically. This minimizes transit time and reduces potential risks.
Shipping Insurance
The value of your cigar pass is something you wouldn’t want to risk losing, especially right before it returns to your doorstep. While physical cigars can’t be replaced if lost, you can safeguard their overall value with insurance from USPS, available at a reasonable cost. It’s worth considering this extra protection to ensure your pass is covered.

For added security, consider opting for signature delivery to prevent cigars from being left unattended on a porch. While this is optional, it’s a recommended precaution to avoid potential theft. Ultimately, how you proceed with these options is at your discretion as the host of the pass.
